Week 13, Nov 17-21

Posted in General
In our last week before the week of Thanksgiving, we finished up reading about the "Go-getters" of the latter half of the 19th century.  I tried to fit in a Thanksgiving book but I failed.  I am glad the kids played a Thanksgiving trivia game during the holidays to refresh their Thanksgiving knowledge!

We finished up Old Yeller as K's reader and A's read aloud.  Poor A. cried quite a bit at the end.  We also finished up Caddie Woodlawn as K's read aloud.  This was an enjoyable book!  A. finished up Marco Polo and began Little House on Rocky Ridge.  She did very well with the comprehension questions for Marco Polo, so perhaps she is improving in comprehension.

K. had a big gym meet the weekend before Thanksgiving.  The meet happened to be in the same city where my parents live, so it was nice to stay at their house.  Sadly, they were on vacation, so we didn't get to see them that weekend.  After the meet, we drove back home and hung out until the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.  Then we drove back to my parents' house--they had come home from their vacation.  We had a nice Thanksgiving feast with my parents, my brother and his wife and his wife's large family.  It was an overall wonderful time.

I have been thinking, as one usually does during Thanksgiving, about how grateful I am for all the things God has blessed me with.  He certainly has blessed me far more than I deserve.  What a wonderful God we serve!!!

My boys just finished Old Yeller last week too. They just started Sing Down the Moon. I am ALMOST finished with Moccasin Trail. I say almost because it feels like it has taken me such a long time to read through this book that is not too big. They have really enjoyed it though. I've got Little Britches on deck next. My 8yo dd is reading Emily's Runaway Imagination. I think she will start Little House on Rocky Ridge next. I am not familiar with it. My older two never read it to me. I am familiar with Caddie Woodlaw, though. Sounds like we are going down a similar read aloud path. LOL!

Blessings!

You Are a Mac
You are creative, stylish, and super trendy. You demand the best - even if it costs an arm and a leg.
You Are Austin
A little bit country, a little bit rock and roll. You're totally weird and very proud of it. Artistic and freaky, you still seem to fit in... in your own strange way. Famous Austin residents: Lance Armstrong, Sandra Bullock, Andy Roddick
You Belong in Paris
You enjoy all that life has to offer, and you can appreciate the fine tastes and sites of Paris. You're the perfect person to wander the streets of Paris aimlessly, enjoying architecture and a crepe.
What Your Pizza Reveals
Your appetite is pretty average. You don't go overboard - but you don't deprive yourself either. You aren't particularly picky about pizza. It's so good... how could you be? You fit in best in the Western part of the US. Your taste in food tends to favor what's rich and comforting. You prefer food that will definitely satisfy you. You are eclectic, stylish, and totally random with your choices. You are deep and thoughtful. You should consider traveling to Paris. The stereotype that best fits you is guy or girl next door. Hey, there's nothing wrong with being average.
