K's work from LA 3 Advanced

Posted in Children's Work
Well, I have been terrible with recording K's written work!  I have stuff she wrote for last year's assignments all piled up, waiting to be blogged.  I am determined to get all of this done this week!

Unfortunately, because I have waited so long, I don't have these writings in chronological order.  I tried to put them in some chronological order, though.  Anyway....here they are:

I believe this assignment was a Story Starter assignment--she was to write a story based on a picture

Chapter 1  BANG!

It landed in the middle of the town with a huge bang.

"Oh dear, " said Granny.  "I do believe that thing caused great damage.  Leila, dear, we need to go to the cabin."

When we got home, I packed all my things in a briefcase.  Granny did the same and said, "I think that that was a large bubble."

"Granny are you sick," I exclaimed.  "no one blows bubbles that big!  Besides, it would have popped, instad it landed with a bang!  And why are we packing everything we own?"

Granny smiled, I frowned.

Granny said, "Let us go!"

I looked around, making sure I had all my toys, shoes, clothes, anything.  I grabbed somedinner and followed my grandmother.

Chapter 2  Goodbye, Earth!

Granny walked towards the "bubble".  I follwed her with disapproval, did she want to kill us?!  When we got there she stepped inside.  I hesitated greatly but got in it.  It began to rise.  I looked around, it looked just like a bubble, just huge!  I watched arth disappear and we were in space.

I looked at Granny who said, "We're going to the moon."  I gasped. In a while I fell asleep.  When I woke up I saw the moon so white and pretty.  We lived there for a few years and then went back, it was very fun and now I know a lot about the moon.  When we got home, we made sure it didn't crash.  And when I went to school I had a story to tell!

This assignment was also a Story starter.

Max faked coughed again.  "No, maybe tomorrow I'll feel better, " thought Max.  He had faked the flu since 2 days ago and thought he needed more of a break.  Max grabbed a book, his favorite pop-up.  He opened it to page 3.  He smiled at the duck fact popping out.  And all of a sudden they grew and grew and grew!!!!  Max nearly screamed!  And out popped a fairy!  She pulled off the duck feet all very calmly and sang anything but calmly:  "I am Saris one and all.  I have come to telllll you not to lie you lie too much, much too much.  A little more I will take you!"

Shakily but loudly Max laughed, "Lying is fine," he said.  Now Saris was angry.  She told him the story of the boy whocried wolf and said, "If you keep lying I'll gove up you what you deserve."  Max understood.  the next day, he went to school.

This assignment was from week 21.  The assignment was to write a book report.

Om-Kas-Toe

Om-Kas-Toe is a book about a Blackfeet boy.  In this book Om finds a bird, he names it Wise Bird and trains it.  Later on, Wise Bird helps Om find Bull-Elk.  Om kills it and it provides much food for Om's tribe.  One day, while watching for enemies Om and his twin sister find a horse which makes hunting easy for his tribe.  Om-Kas-Toe was a good book.  I liked it.

This assignment from week 22 was to write a newspaper article about the Constitutional convention.

In Order to Form a More Perfect Nation........

Settle down!  U.S.A!  Boston!  Virginia!  Calm, be calm!  There was no question to it, America needed a new form of government!  Finally, in 187, in the hottest of the summer, many American leaders met to write a new form of government.  Because there were many different men, with many different ideas, trouble started.  The big states wanted to have more votes in Congress because they had more people.  But the little states said that was no fair!!!  Finally, they all agreed.  There would be two houses.  In one, the would all have 2 votes, and in the second house, big states would have more votes.  When they finally finished, there was no Bill of Rights.  Why?  The men were too tired and hot!  Then they had to have the states' approval.  They decided if 9 states agreed it would be put into action.  Nine states agreed, so the U. S. A. had a new government!!!

One of her writing assignments for week 23 was to write a description about someone she knows.  She chose her brother, FQ.

FQ
He is about 2 feet tall, 1 foot wide, 20 pounds.  His eyes are brown, his hair black brown, and he has long eyelashes.
The person's most unique feature is the fact that he tries all foods and tries to do all things.
This person reminds me of myself when I was a baby.
I wish I was like this person in this way:  Whenever he smiles or is happy, everyone sees that he feels happy inside.

For week 25, she was to write a letter requesting permission for something she normally cannot do.

Mommy, please let me and my sisters have breakfast in bed?  We will not be late for homeschool?  WE will also not make a mess in bed.  If you still think we will make a mess, we will stay in our room but not in bed, on the floor.  If you still do not approve you can have yoru breakfast in bed also, in addition, I will make anything you want at any time.

(Hmm...I may have to seriously consider this!!  LOL)

She was to write 2 poems for week 27, a free verse poem and a limerick.

Free verse:
As a child I'd spin in circles, all day long,
Dancing was my special gift I loved it with all my heart
Whatever I did I'd change it to,
Dance, dance, dance.
When I grow up I was a dnace teacher
After being a Broadway star.
And I made dancing dreams come true,
Whatever they are.

Limerick:
Silver is beautiful, and oh so sweet.
When it's sharp, It will cut you a piece of meat.
It will also make a good toy
That is given for Christmas to a good boy
But never ever take silver to eat.

For week 28, she was to write a brief news article that informs the public about the Lewis and Clark Expedition:

As you all know, the U.S.A. has bought Louisiana.  But who knows what lies in that barren land?  So the president has sent a party of men to be the first to put a flag on Louisiana!!!

She was also to write an editorial:
Editorial thoughts:
I believe that buying Louisiana was a waste of time and money.  Taking on a whole continent is too much for the government to handle and sending a party of men to explore it was more than mad.  The men will die for sure and whopp! there goes a party of dead men!  The Lord only knows if I'm right or not but for now, that's what I think!

She was also to write a short human interest biography.

John Ordway was born in New Hampshire and raised by his parents, who he loved dearly.  he went to school when young and must have learnt well for he can spell better than Clark.  He also seemed to have many a simile in his talking:  a foaming river for milk and loud falling water for cannons.  Also Ordway served in the Whiskey Rebellion.  Aslo Ordway went back alive, a very brave fellow.

For week 29, she was to write about the pros and cons of something:

What..will...you...do..this...Sunday?  Sunday is the Sabbath.  The Sabbath is the day Jesus rested from making the world.  He told us to rest on the Sabbath, but He also said the rule was unliterall you can do something on Sunday!!!  Soooooo what will you do on Sunday, hah.  If you do nothing on Sunday the bad part is if you don't do smething on Saturday, you can't do it on Sunday you have to wait until Monday.  The good part is you have a whole day off, so you don't overtire.  I think Sunday you should dress nicely and change when you get home from church, also you can do things on the Sabbath, just not things that tire you easily and that are not fun.  I think you should go to bed early on the Sabbath so you can get lots of rest.

For week 31, she was to create a title and a paragraph describing the book for the back cover of the book.

Her title was:
If you lived in Britain......

And the back cover paragraph:

"What's Britain like, Mama?"

That's what 4 year old Zorica asks when she comes home from school.  Join them as they learn about Paddington, the subway, different English, Stonehenge and more!!!

She has more assignments in folder somewhere, so I will be on the lookout for it.

Hope the writing was enjoyable!!!

You Are a Mac
You are creative, stylish, and super trendy. You demand the best - even if it costs an arm and a leg.
You Are Austin
A little bit country, a little bit rock and roll. You're totally weird and very proud of it. Artistic and freaky, you still seem to fit in... in your own strange way. Famous Austin residents: Lance Armstrong, Sandra Bullock, Andy Roddick
You Belong in Paris
You enjoy all that life has to offer, and you can appreciate the fine tastes and sites of Paris. You're the perfect person to wander the streets of Paris aimlessly, enjoying architecture and a crepe.
What Your Pizza Reveals
Your appetite is pretty average. You don't go overboard - but you don't deprive yourself either. You aren't particularly picky about pizza. It's so good... how could you be? You fit in best in the Western part of the US. Your taste in food tends to favor what's rich and comforting. You prefer food that will definitely satisfy you. You are eclectic, stylish, and totally random with your choices. You are deep and thoughtful. You should consider traveling to Paris. The stereotype that best fits you is guy or girl next door. Hey, there's nothing wrong with being average.
