Amazed!!!

Art work, 1/24/09
This week, our art lesson focused on portraits. We studied the portrait of Henry VIII by Hans Holbien. We learned about how the portrait can take up all of the space in a painting to show the importance of the person, or the portrait can depict some background things to show things that may be relevant to the person.
For their project, they were to use their watercolor crayons to make a portrait. The portrait can be of someone they know or someone fictitious.
This is L's portrait, titled Nina:

K's is titled Madam Victori Marie Amelia Bougrandel Saulelar (can you tell she had fun coming up with a title?):
The girls all had a great time with their portraits.
I also wanted to show this because I'm rather proud of this. L. has been taking piano lessons for a semester now. She took the Music for Mozarts class and did book 1 last fall. She did really well and her "class" is just her and one other little girl. They have done marvelously together and their teacher told me that L. is very musical. Last fall, L. composed a song and her teacher wrote it down on sheet music for her. The song is called "Spring Beauty" and it's her very first composition, done at age 5. Here it is:
She is taking the class for book 2 and has the same classmate this semester.
I love art but am not very talented and because of this, was never encouraged to do much of it, even for fun. I don't know if my kids have the natural talent to do art professionally, but they love it and I am going to make sure I keep encouraging them to do it. Art is just beautiful in and of itself and a great outlet!
