Along Came TWO Spiders

Posted in Photo Gallery

This is part of our Little Miss Muffet drama (read today's blog).
We must've done 10 different variations of the true nursery rhyme; this time Elijah wanted there to be two spiders to frighten Mrs. Potato Head away.

Making Words

Posted in Photo Gallery

This picture is from yesterday.  For phonics, I dictated words to Elijah and he found the letter links and made the words!

~ sweet, sweet Simon ~

Posted in Photo Gallery

Simon was weighed and measured yesterday-- 12 lbs. 15 ounces and 24 inches long!   He's our long, skinny sweetie pie-- he truly is the sweetest baby ever and absolutely adored by all of us.

Here are some pictures of him in his froggy bath towel that I found at a garage sale.  I think he's wondering what in the world I'm doing to him-- putting him in that bath towel and hood!  Look at that face!

Painting a Picture

Posted in Photo Gallery

Elijah did this *all* by himself while I was tending to Simon.  My job was to get paint colors as he requested and snap a few pictures.

Ten Little Ladybugs

Posted in Photo Gallery

well, actually Fourteen Little Ladybugs, but Ten sounds better for a title

Our ladybugs had all broken out of their skins and gone from pale yellow to pretty pinkish red, so we decided to let them go this morning in my flower bed.  While we were releasing them in the highest populated aphid area, we found a little bitty monarch caterpillar on the milkweed.

When we were headed outside with our Ladybug Land, Elijah said, "Good Morning, Ladybugs!  Are you ready to eat some aphids?" and I knew he had learned something from this unit

Yesterday we ditched school and went to a summer swim party with our FIAR co-op.  It was so good for the kids to get to just PLAY with each other since they are usually just learning together (nothing wrong with that, but they really enjoyed the playing).  They swam, played croquet, took turns in the hammock, played on the swingset, and played some basketball; we had six of the seven families there.  It was good for the moms, too!

I don't know how much school we are going to get done today (if any).  It's already late afternoon, and all we've done is read a few chapters (4-5) of The Littles to the Rescue.  I think we'll try some handwriting and cutting practice.

It's on to SPIDERS tomorrow.

About Me

As I walk by the way with my children, I hope to keep a record here of what we do as well as thoughts, hopes, and prayers I have as a homeschooling mother. Deut. 6:5-9 is the heartbeat of our homeschool, "And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart... And these words…shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them… when thou walkest by the way…"
