Thinking about farm life...Part 2

I still want to live on a farm.  I want to be surrounded by the beauty of God's creation and enjoy the view from the back of a horse.  I spent the afternoon on Saturday at the barn - riding, grooming and cuddling "Benji," the half quarter horse / appaloosa I have fallen in love with! I was thinking how blessed I am that I can have this hobby now, in my thirties, when I can really appreciate it.  (I have loved horses since I was very young, but never had the opportunity to learn to ride.) Now I understand what it is worth.  Now I need it.  It is the only time I have to myself all week and it is so refreshing to spend my time with Benji!  So what if I return home smelling just like him...I return home with a big smile.  I am content.
I am so very thankful for my few hours of farm life every week.  It is my little gift from God, who always gives me what I need.
So if we never make it out to the real country, I will still be content. He knows what is best for us.  And I am learning to trust.

"God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." 2 Cor. 9:8 (NIV)

I've often felt I wanted to live more in the country where I could hear God clearer! I was born on a farm in Mississippi but left with my parents when I was 2 yrs. old. We have gone back every year and each time I go I find I can feel and hear God crystal clear. I do want a slower pace in life for my children. We live in New York-not the city the suburbs but it still can 'feel' hectic.

I can relate to what you are feeling/saying! I really wish we didn't live amid concrete and and actually had wide open spaces for my dc to run and play : )

Hang in there, gal, and keep on praying for it. I had to pray for over 10 years to move to the country. I hope that doesn't discourage you -- God doesn't always take that long. You've probably got this downpat, but for me, I think I had to find contentment with what I had first. It was at the point that I finally said, "Okay, I could live here in this 1200 sq. foot house with four kids and a dh for the rest of my life and still be happy," that we moved. Just as I decided to call our little house a "cottage" and decided to make the most of our small back yard, we moved. Isn't that funny? I was ALMOST disappointed to leave by then!

Now we have just an acre but we're in farmland and we live on a river with a whole bunch of chickens. Someday, I want 100 acres and all the animals you could imagine (non-exotic, please!), but if God leaves us here on this one acre, I am perfectly content with that, too.

I also think it's easiest to worship God in nature. It's the Great Cathedral, in my opinion! Lovely blogs on this! I'll pray for you, too.
