Feb. 22, 2008 • Lunar Eclipse Pics

Posted in Family

The kids and I managed to get some pics of the eclipse Wednesday, despite the fact that the camera master didn't get home until almost 11:00 PM. He did make it in time to get some shots - good thing because I'm not very good with a tripod in the dark with cold hands! Some of mine came out okay, but I didn't have the camera tightened down properly, and I was too impatient to take everything back in the house to figure it out. So, onto the pics! Click on the thumbnails for larger sizes.

Jordan took some pictures early on in the eclipse. He posted them on his blog.

Wow! I just downloaded Nathan's photos, and they are phenomenal! He used Rob's big camera, which I'm afraid of. Here are a few of Nathan's pics (I used the large size since they are so good - if you click on the photo in Flickr, you will get a clearer image). Nathan didn't stay out very long because he was cold, so he just got some early eclipse pics:

Allyson took these early in the eclipse:

These are a couple of mine:

Kathryn took some, but she deleted all but one!

And last, but definitely not least, here are some of Rob's:

Rob got a nice progression at the end of the eclipse. All of these pictures are in the order they were taken. You can view the whole set here.

Feb. 11, 2007 • A Nice Evening with My Daughter

Posted in Family

I bought my daughters Stitches & Pins for Christmas, hoping to be able to schedule some time to teach them how to sew. We got through the introduction and most of the practice stitches, but we hadn't yet begun the first project.

Tonight, I was finally able to spend the evening with my wonderful daughter, Allyson, teaching her how to sew a pillowcase as a surprise birthday present for her brother. She bought the fabric with her own money and has been begging me to work on it for a few weeks now. We finally got around to it (the day before his birthday). She did everything herself, and I am so proud of her! Here is a picture of her creation:

Allyson blogged about her surprise here. We'll be posting pictures on her blog tomorrow. Didn't she do a wonderful job?

Posted in Family

Blessings to all of the fathers out there, and thank you for being there to raise your children!

Rob, thank you for always striving to mirror The Father for our children, for being a Godly example, a loving and playful dad, and for working so hard to support and provide for our family.  We all love you very much!

Apr. 21, 2006 • Beginning

Posted in Family

I have read the articles about having a focus for your blog, but I guess I will just let this blog form itself or I will never write anything!  Be prepared for changes as I continue my blogging journey.

Now for my intro: I am a homeschooling mother of four wonderful children, ages 12, 10, 8, and 7, and wife to an awesome, loving, godly man.  We began using the Tapestry of Grace curriculum in February, and we are really enjoying it.  Before that I used Amblesideonline, which I loved but was unable to keep up with due to our very busy schedule.  I feel like TOG has taken a lot of pressure off of me, although it still requires some prep time.  We use Miquon, Saxon, and Developmental Math for different children.  We also use living books, of course!  Maybe I will write more on curriculum in a later post.

I am a part-time medical transcriptionist, working out of my home.  That has been a big financial blessing.  We are working towards living on just my husband's income, but we will see what God has in store.  For now, I have to remember to be joyful and content where God has us, and be grateful for all of His blessings.  That doesn't mean I always succeed, but I know that God is faithful to complete the good work He began!

My husband and I run a children's ministry and youth ministry at our very active church on the border of Warren and Detroit.  We love it there and are blessed to be part of reaching out to so many people in so many ways.  You can see our church's website here:  Lord of the Harvest Christian Fellowship.

I think that is definitely enough for my first blog!  I'm looking forward to being part of the blogosphere here at HomeschoolBlogger!

In CHRIST,
~ Andrea ~
