Finishing our 1st Workbook!!!

Yeah we did it.  My daughter has finally finished her first workbook.  We are taking a bit of a break.  We have the next workbook already in order.  This one is from School Zone and it called the "Big First Grade" book, 320 page workbook with tear out pages.  Going through the pages I noticed that the first half are stuff we have already done, so she should get through them quickly.  That will be good for me, it gives us more time to do other projects and subject exploration.

We are taking a mini trip to Mexico near Monterrey.  So exciting, I have never been and my stomach is already ready!!!  Yum Yum is all I can think.  It is not as long as I would like, but even the few days we get will be fun.  Plus it is my daughters birthday next week so we will have a small party for her in Mexico with pinata and tons of food and music.  How could you not have fun with that?

So today has been filled with clean, shop, pack, clean, repack, match outfits etc etc.  I figured if I spent the time cleaning, when I get back we can just chill for a day and  not worry about the house and laundry.  Tomorrow is takeoff.

I will let everyone know about our trip when we get back.  I hope to take tons of pictures, and really get a sense of the culture.  I made sure that we are going to a rustic area and not a tourist trap so that we can get the real deal.

Oh and this will be where I do my Christmas shopping!!! Nothing like getting cool stuff from another country..stuff like tera cotta coffee cups for those die hard coffee drinkers in the family, and spices and spice grinders.  My mind is spinning thinking of all the stuff I want for myself that won't cost but a few dimes.

Alright I have to stop rambling and get back to folding laundry and getting ready.  This is a well needed break before the rush of all the holidays that are coming up.

Happy Pre-Thanksgiving Shopping and many calm thoughts for the weekend.  Remember relax, clean, relax.. don't stress it and it will make the holiday so much more enjoyable.

Coming into blogger world!!!

To this new world of HSBlogger I will introduce myself soon.  However I have been blogging for the past couple of weeks on myhomeschoolplace.com/angeliqua  if anyone is interested in reading more about me and my ramblings.

For the next few weeks I will continue to blog and will copy it on over to here to share with my hopefully new friends in this homeschooling adventure.  I would love to get comments, advice and hugs from those out there that are going through the same stuff.

The following is today's post.
 From yours truly:

Progressing Through the Pages

In a few blogs I mentioned that our goal for this 1st grade workbook was to get through it by Christmas.  Well low and behold we actually only have 2 pages left.  I told my daughter that once that was finished we would work more on just fun reading and math.  That is the only the she actually associated with school, the rest was fun for her. LOL... But we made it through and the last few pages concentrate on more writing which she has been doing wonderfully.

To backtrack a bit, yes I have been online off and all week, but did not really want to sit and type anything until now.

Sunday was very very busy for me.  I managed to go to 2 stores for groceries, wash 4 loads of laundry, clean the house, and fold the laundry all before the house actually woke up.  Yes I had gotten up early and could not go back to sleep.  After all that when I was getting ready to rest the neighbor came over and mentioned she was going to make Tamales.  I had never made them before so I just had to get involved.  That was a long process, and of course we always go outside the box so we did not make them simple we added tons of veggies and chicken to them.  I am going to do research on Tamales around the world type of thing.  Apparently other countries make them other than Mexico and they each put something different in them.  It was a laborious process but so much fun.  My daughter got to help and loved wrapping them up.  So we will be making them for Thanksgiving when we come back from our trip.

After all that we went to the park and then came back and watch a movie with the neighbors while eating our tamales.  They were amazing.

That day we also accomplished a couple of workbook sheets and went over our pattern pages.  It was busy.

Monday I was just wiped out from so much on Sunday that we took it really slow.  Watched movies off and on all day and worked on worksheets in the book.

Tuesday was library day, we had a movie their and saw "How to Eat Fried Worms,"  they provided snacks and drinks and the girls loved it.  Afterward we went to our new homeschool buddies house and played all night.

Today was a hair pulling day, I think everyone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.  Daughter did several pages in her book.  I had put colored post its on the pages we had left and she got a kick out of tearing them off when she was done with that page.  It encouraged her to get through them.  After that we started reading "Green Eggs and Ham," and she did really well with most of the words.  It was fun to see her light up and knowing them in one of her favorite books.

After schoolwork it seemed that we had meltdown after meltdown.  Finally my DH and I sat with the girls in their room on their bed and just hung out and talked.  That seemed to make all the difference in the world.  They calmed down and seemed very content after that.  Guess they just needed a little TLC.

Oh well now scratch the above comment a bit.  While enjoying the quiet and typing this... my youngest decided to get the eggs out of the fridge and take them in her room to count. Hmm  never get too comfortable when kids go from fighting to peace so shortly.. it is not lasting.  Well I walk in to find her playing in raw egg on the carpet.  What the gjgjgjgjgggjgbjbjfffjjjgjgjg is all I can think.  I was so befuddled with the picture that I could not even yell.  How do you get egg off a carpet?  And how many eggs were in the box (of course I have no idea.) So I had to play easter hunt while trying to wipe up the mess.  So So So not fun.

With that thought I leave y'all for the evening.  It is bound to be interesting.  For all the times we wish we could rewind time, there are days like this that I wish I could fast forward a few hours and have bed time right now!!!
