“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep" John 10:11
I just finished reading Tanglewood's Secret to my children, and once again I am left thankful for the writing of Patricia St John! Not only are her books wholesome reading that point children to Christ they have meat in them that leaves me chewing for days after!
In this story particularly, she talks about a painting of a lamb, who has run it's own way (look up Isaiah 53:6) and has gotten farther and farther away from it's shepherd. It eventually gets stuck on a precipice, too far down to climb up, and it is a fatal drop below. The shepherd searches all night to find the lamb, but all the lamb needs to do is call for the shepherd, and He will come running to save his beloved lamb and lead him safely home.
It is quite common to hear Jesus referred to as our Shepherd, but the imagery of this scene has really stuck with me. (In the story a Shepherd uses the story to lead a girl to salvation).
It really is just that simple. We are all like that lamb, going our own way, and some of us seem to get farther out on the cliff than others, but regardless NONE of us can find our way back on our own. Yet our Shepherd, Jesus, has made it so easy. He has done the hard part. The searching, the suffering..The ONLY thing we must do is call for Him. Just ask Him to save us and He comes running to carry us safely home. What amazing love that is!
It has also made me view others differently as well. When you view your fellow men as lost lambs, your heart breaks for them in a new way. My heart has been reignited to pray fervently for these unsaved sheep, lost in their own way. How much easier for us to love these lambs when we see them they way our Shepherd does instead of through our own eyes.
I pray for revival. I pray that lost lambs all over the world God has created would realize all they need to do is call for the Shepherd, His way is so much better than our own!
"Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." (Luke 19:9-10)
“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it And when he comes home, he calls together on his shoulders, rejoicing. his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. Luke 15
But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. John 10:2
