Oct. 8, 2009 - Peter's Pirate Party Part 1-Decorations
Stampin Up came out with their pirate party kit this year and my oldest decided that it was so great he wanted to base his entire 9th birthday party around it!
Invitations I made (Stampin Up's kit only came with a few). I whited out the address for the blog ;)
You can see the Stampin Up Invites on the right here
Dining Room Table
(We also had a second banner that we hung on the garage)
We were give this treasure box that we filled with goodies from Oriental Trading to help our guests get into the pirate spirit.
And no pirate party is complete without pirate coins (ours were gum instead of the usual chocolate).
Craft Table
We had a treasure chest (which Peter built from a kit, also from Michael's) that we filled with gems, pirate stickers etc, and the guests were able to decorate their own pirate swords and ships.
We used some empty washing machine boxes from a friend and turned them into a pirate ship:
Peter painted his own pirate flag for the front porch
He made a foam ship from Michael's as a centerpiece
Andrew turned 5! He chose an army party! So we had lots of army fun. He chose the menu as well: hot gogs, cheesy chips (Doritos and -Kettle chips 3 cheese) cucumbers in ranch, cheese and crackers, army colored M&Ms and army colored ice cream (mint n chip).
And the boy got 3 cakes! I made the 1st cake, then got sick and had to cancel the party. The next week I made another cake, and tried a new recipe. While it tasted AMAZING the cake was so moist and the frosting so rich that it collapsed in on itself! So we got a last minute store made cake for the party.
Andrew's birthday is coming up, and the gifts have started coming in from grandparents. Well Grandpa's gift is here, he doesn't wrap, he leaves that up to me! And Peter has been working REALLY hard on a gift for Andrew this year. Since he is so big on stamp collecting and Andrew is always watching him saying how cool it is, he saved up to buy Andrew an album and is giving him all his duplicates and he bought him some new ones as well.
Well Peter went to wrap the gift that he finished up yesterday, and found he had no more wrapping paper! Well, we had a little bit of pink from Abigail's birthday and some Christmas paper which wouldn't do, and a roll of brown shipping paper. So I said "Why dont you use the brown paper and decorate it yourself, draw some army men or something" (the theme is ARMY). Well he came up with this and I was so impresed!
So when I went to wrap the present from Grandpa, I decided to take that idea and change it up a bit. I used my stamp inks and a sponge and sponged different shades of green and brown. Then Andrew came in and wanted to help so I let him do the black. He had a great time! I added a green tag with black letters and twine and was really pleased with how they turned out.
