Jun. 30, 2009 - Meeting Online Friends in Person
In a way, that is so true. At the same time, I have allowed fear to keep me from meeting some amazing friends.Well I met a friend online about 2 yrs ago on the Weaver list. She and her family (the Ensz family) are missionaries living in Brazil. We became good friends and I thought it would be educational for my daughter to become pen pals with her daughter who is the same age. The girls hit it off even better than the mothers and have been emailing non stop for about a year and a half.
The Ensz family are now visiting in the states and the girls thought it would be great to meet. I was a little iffy about meeting them. Well to be honest, I was scared. I arranged with Grace (the mom) to meet in the park next to my house because it is a public place. We had such a nice time and I am so grateful and feel so blessed to have met them. I feel so silly now for being so scared. My husband met us at the park soon after and was also very impressed with them. I'm sure he will never make fun of me now when I call my online buddies "My Friends". LOL
My daughter took pictures, but I have not had a chance to download them yet. As soon as I do, I will share them. They are an amazing family.
Here is a prayer card they left with me with their picture in the front:

When you meet your neighbours, you don't necessarily have stuff in common with them, and yet, you can build a relationship...
When you meet a friend online, usually you meet BECAUSE you have something in common
I've met quite a few online friends, mostly as I've travelled and stopped in on them. Granted, I'm only taking a snap-shot view of them in real life, but I've found that those I've met have been of exceptional quality - going above and beyond... truly Christ at work through them.
take comfort in knowing that for the most part, those you come across in your interneting... are actually really nice people.. because you've met them in NICE places.
Get passports for the family and come to Canada! (wink)

Hey, Jen! Welcome back. I don't think I'd be blogging much with a little baby, either. I am glad you are trying again though. I have met two blogging friends. Unfortunately, neither is blogging any longer and with busy lives, we've lost touch. I would love to meet other bloggers one day.

Hi Jen! Oh my, I haven't been here in forever. You sound so settled and happy, what a blessing. I'm glad you stopped at my place. It's good to hear from you again. :o)

for stopping by and blessing me with your visit. It's been too long! I am so glad that things look well, although you alluded to a roller coaster. Man, don't I know it. I think it's where we all are right now.
I know life comes first, but I sure do hope you'll be able to check in more regularly and let us know what's happening in your world. God bless you, Jen.

I have met a lot of on-line friends. I have corresponded with them enough first, to know them well enough to plan a public meeting. I just moved to Virginia and an on-line friend lives two miles from me and I am attending her wonderful church! I have also met my on-line friend who works in Colonial Williamsburg. We met at one of the Thomas Jefferson Public Audiences while she was doing sound.
Blessings,
Laurie
