I can't believe that I am going to write this next sentence...I am ready for school to start. Yes, it is true. I am ready. Shall we analyze this together? First of all, have you been to Walmart lately? Have you seen all of the glue sticks, notebooks, backpacks, and scissors? Oh my, it is so exciting. I have even been known to pick up those supply lists that schools place in the store. No reason. I guess that I am just wanting, for a moment, to be like the other moms.
So we have discerned that the back-to-school retail sales have caught my eye. But surely there is more behind this desire to start another year of lessons. Here is the big one: boredom. How much laundry can I do? How many times can I clean the same rooms? My days revolve around planning meals. I want to be more than a maid. Jeff is busy planning VBS and the boys are happily running around outside racing to destroy every single summer outfit that they can. Me? I clean, cook, check out your blogs, clean, cook, check out your blogs...you get the idea. But school...(imagine dream music here)...school means I get to teach and learn right along with the kids. I am seen as someone with a brain. I get to drag the kids out of bed and hear their cute little moans and groans. I get to hustle around making sure all chores are completed. I get to work myself into a frenzy making sure all is in order for the day. Then school starts. We will look all over for #2 son's math book. Then #1 son will announce that he is done with school after about 10 min. He seems to think that I won't find that odd. Yes, dear son #1, you do have to do all of today's work. Then we move to sons #3 . #3 will throw a tantrum is he misses a math problem. He is a bit of a perfectionist and feels very defeated when he errors. #4 will stay with things for awhile but then announce that he's had enough and will trot off to play. I, of course, will let him because, well, he's the baby. The scenes that you've just witnessed all will take place within the first hour of the school day. I haven't even mentioned piano, Bible memory, history, science..etc.... I think that I just brought myself back to reality. I will enjoy summer break a little longer.
By the way, I have one more son who is after me to interview him. I shall try to get that done some time. I am just so busy cleaning, cooking, and blogging.... |
