Harvest time

Posted in Family
Since my last time with you, we have seen some fruit from our labour.  In addition to my lovely sunset sunflowers, we have harvested some okra, cucumbers and sweet peppers.

The cucumbers were starting to spread its tendrils to some of the other crops so hubby had to build a trelis to try to keep them in order.

dad's little helper

Having the kids work with us(mainly dad) in the garden has been a great lesson in perseverance and hard work. They got to watch how the little seeds they planted and watered grew into full blown veggies they could pick and eat. We reminded them it's the same with our lives. If we plant seeds in our lives(good or bad) eventually we will see the fruit in the way we speak or act towards each other and others.  God wants us to cultivated a healthy crop, and so it is important to plant His words in our hearts and minds especially at an early age, so as we grow older, we will reap good fruit - if we faint not.

yup! there's that okra again :-)

So until next time keep planting good seeds and do not get weary for in due season, you shall reap!!  See ya at canadagirl

Wow ! You have a GREAT harvest. My boys were asking what does ocra taste like and I wasn't able to tell them b/c I couldnt remember.

We were wondering if you had anything else growing in your wonderful garden. My boys help us in ours. We are eating colard greens, salad greens, peas, strawberrys, and herbs to cook with.

We are behind a lot of people but we are getting there.

Blessings in Him<><

Wonderful! I love how you are teaching the children about God's bounty. Our garden has produced many beans, strawberries and onions. The tomatoes will be in soon. Hopefully melons and pumpkins in the fall.
Blessings,
Dawn

Your garden is several weeks ahead of ours - so it's great to see what we have to look forward to. And, yes, little helpers are always appreciated!

I found through browsing through the member list of Charlotte Mason bloggers. You have a beautiful family.

I had to laugh when I saw pictures of your okra. It was also the first crop to yield in our garden this summer. I was so proud of such thick, green, long stalks--7 in. in some cases. However, I found out that they're too tough to taste like anything when they get that big! My fried okra came out like seasoned straw! I hope you have more success!

I enjoyed my visit. Thanks for sharing your family with us.

Wow, just look at all those lovely green veggies! Each year I say that we'll plant some okra, but I just never get around to it, after planting our usual crops. But you have inspired me to put it on the definite "to-do" list for next year's garden. I love okra! Do you eat it all during the season, or do you put some up for winter. If so, how do you go about preserving your okra?
