Small blessings

Posted in Family
It's been a while since I posted something on S&T but I have a good reason. I was busy enjoying our newest blessing, Catherine Aleece Knowles.  I just thought I'd share a little more about our newest addition.  Thank God it was a swift and relatively easy delivery.  We made it to the hospital just in time and after about 30 minutes, she was born.  All of us are doing well and my first 2 are loving every moment being with her.  Children truly are a blessing from the Lord and we that God for ALL our small blessings. Enjoy the pics and stay tuned for more at canada girl.

New Addition

Posted in Family
Unfortunately, since my last post our garden has been attacked by some ruthless bugs and the only surviving crop was - you guessed it, the okra :-) My least favourite of all our crop but my mom has helped me prepare it in delicious ways so I'm softening to it.
In addition to growing crops our family has grown. We are now the proud parents of Catherine Aleece Knowles born Aug 6th at 5:55pm. So here are a few pics of our newest addition. Enjoy and stay tuned for more at canadagirl

Harvest time

Posted in Family
Since my last time with you, we have seen some fruit from our labour.  In addition to my lovely sunset sunflowers, we have harvested some okra, cucumbers and sweet peppers.

consider the fields

back at it again
The cucumbers were starting to spread its tendrils to some of the other crops so hubby had to build a trelis to try to keep them in order.

dad's little helper

Having the kids work with us(mainly dad) in the garden has been a great lesson in perseverance and hard work. They got to watch how the little seeds they planted and watered grew into full blown veggies they could pick and eat. We reminded them it's the same with our lives. If we plant seeds in our lives(good or bad) eventually we will see the fruit in the way we speak or act towards each other and others.  God wants us to cultivated a healthy crop, and so it is important to plant His words in our hearts and minds especially at an early age, so as we grow older, we will reap good fruit - if we faint not.

yup! there's that okra again :-)

So until next time keep planting good seeds and do not get weary for in due season, you shall reap!!  See ya at canadagirl

The Great Outdoors

Posted in Family
Well it's been a while since I made any entries, but we've been kinda busy. Now that we are expecting our 3rd child, we thought we better start growing some of our own food, especially in these tough times . So we began working on our outdoor garden.

The family putting in the 1st seeds

The kids were sooooo excited to help putting the seeds in the tiny planters.

Time to transplant

This was the first sign of the fruit of our labor. How exciting to see growth and great for the kids also to practice patience.  Now it was time to bring in some soil since we didn't have much in our backyard.

The mighty gardener

We had to bring in extra labor

Now the ground was ready

My wonderful hubby worked soooo hard to manually till the soil.  The next phase was to put in our water system.  He has already done his research and we are awaiting some components for the system.  Stay tuned for more on our Great outdoor project at canadagirl

Step by step

Posted in Family
One of the projects on my hubby's list was to finish put down our stepping stones. Needless to say, this required lots of backbreaking work but we knew the end result would be worth it. As  I look back at it I thought about our christian walk. It is also a step by step walk. First, like with this project, we have to prepare the ground (our heart).

Jonathan helping dad prepare ground

As you can see, preparing the ground is not always easy and sometimes we come across some unpleasant things.

And as unsightly as they may be, they are necessary. In our hearts, we may uncover unforgiveness or some other pain that we have to address in order to move ahead in our walk.

The key is to persevere despite how difficult it may seem. And with God's help we will be able to work out all the details.

Adding the details between each stone

It may not seem that God is in the trenches with us at times but He is right there working on us and creating His masterpiece.

Abigail, trying to capture the moment :-)

In the end, we can look back and see the fruit of our labour, and one day we can look forward to hearing the Lord say, 'well done thou good and faithful servant.'

Well be encouraged!  Continue to take one step at a time remembering the race is not to the swiftest but to he who endures. Till next time check out canadagirl for more.

Turning over a new leaf

Posted in Family
Well, after a long and ill-health Christmas, we are starting the new year clean and fresh, literally. My SUV was in dire need of a cleansing so my dear husband made it a point to get it done for the New Year. These pictures show some of our hard labour.

The initial hose down to loosen the dirt

The job assignments given out!

Jonathan is off to a good start

Abigail needs further clarification of her duties :-)

And away she goes

Finally, the chief himself gets down to the nitty gritty

Now, never mind that you see no pics of me,  I did do my fair share, but someone had to capture the moment

And that is how you start the year fresh and clean!  We have made some decisions to try and keep the vehicles as clean as possible so we will see how well that works with snacking toddlers.  Well this was just one of our New Year's plans, how about you?

Crochet 101

Posted in Family
Well,  tough times call for tough measures.  Hence I've  gone back to the drawing board and tried my hand at crocheting again .  One of the ladies in my Bible study group has taken me under her wings (hey Teri!). This is actually my second project. The first was a 'granny square pattern that was joined with lots more to make a blanket for a sick friend of our Bible study.

I got stuck on my corner and had to consult the 'guru' for assistance

This is my completed project.

Abigail's baby dolls share in their new blanket.

Just in time for the cool weather we have just been experiencing.

Well, that's my show & tell for this Friday check out canadagirl for some more fun stuff.

Grandma's Day

Posted in Family
There's nothing more satisfying than seeing your kids having good clean fun with grandma. It amazes me at times when I think that I, the baby girl in my family, now has babies of her own!!  I have determined that my kids would get to know their grammy, so we initiated Grandma's Day.

The kids playing an old favourite - 'Chutes & Ladders'

Jonathan is making his move!

But youth is no match for experience!!

We had a wonderful day hanging out with grandma Johnson! Not to mention how the kids were rewarded with cookies and juice just for being good sports! Thanks for joining us in our show & tell, be sure to check out canadagirl for more fun ideas.

Celebrating life

Posted in Family
Today we celebrated my father-in-law's 70 somethingth(is that even a word) birthday! .

My brother-in-law came in from Canada yesterday which made it even more special. We went to an all-you-can-eat buffet and wouldn't you know it, my son only ate pizza. As for my daugher, she had her fill of apple juice.  All in all, it was a wonderful day! The ladies is the restaurant even came and sang for him and have him his own slice of chocolate cake. It couldn't hold all the candles but who's complaining?

Papa Knowles enjoying his cake!
One more thing to thank God for!
