Dec. 5, 2008 Keeping Christ in Christmas
This year my family and I have decided to do the Jesse Tree project for Christmas. Somewhere along the line, people seemed to have forgotten that without Jesus, there would be NO Christmas! Hence, our determination to focus our kids on the true meaning. It involves a devotional for each day leading up to Christmas, reminding us of the prophecy from the Old Testament that Christ would come.
This is my Jesse Tree. There are other methods for doing this but I chose this one given the time I had.
The good thing about this method is that it's simple enough that my kids can help with the ornaments.
These are some of the ornaments. They correspond to the devotionals.
I let the children take turns placing the ornaments on the tree after hubby and I finish the readings.
Abigail, rejoicing in placing her ornament.
Let's be mindful this season of the reason and not allow the media or any other thing or person influence us to focus on the material things that wont last. When we do celebrate we can do so not because of presents we receive but that we received the GREATEST GIFT the world could ever receive, that is Jesus Christ. Remember keep Christ in CHRISTmas!!!

Oct. 23, 2008 who's in charge
We like to think that we are in charge of what happens to us but ultimately, we are all just players in a drama bigger than anyone of us can imagine. More and more I see how God orchestrates things so that His plans are accomplished for our good and His glory. Take for instance, last night I asked my hubby to fill up my car so I wouldn't have to do it in the morning before going to a meeting. The whole family went and fueled up but when it was time to leave the gas station, the car wouldn't start, go figure! On top of that, it started to rain By now the kids are getting antsy and he's wondering who to call. To make a long story short he decided to check the battery and low and behold, the battery cells were bone dry. Turns out that was the problem! Now you may say no big deal but I saw God's hand in that. For one thing, I learned the battery needs water! and had we waited til morning I would have been alone with the kids and stranded somewhere with a dead car.
So tell me, that wasn't God! |
