Notes from drama mamas...I have decided to use this blog as a sort fo journal for the drama camp. Iam receiving some sweet notes from the moms after the first day @ camp... it's very humbling, considering I am having alot of fun doing this whole thing. The kidsa re a joy aso obedient - they are just as determined to make this show a success as I am: here are some of the notes...
Thanks again for a wonderful first day of drama camp. Lauren was overflowing with joy.
YOU ARE DOING A TERRIFIC JOB.
Thank you for all your time and effort.
Thank you for providing growth opportunities within my family.
Keep up the wonderful, beautiful, heartfelt work.
Day 2 - Home's Cool Drama CampDay 2... Time flies when you're having fun!! I have alot to share!!
These kids have nine scenes and nine songs!! We are putting this together in five days!! (Only by the grace of God!)
I broke down in tears... in awe of God's abundant grace, allowing me to be a part of something so rewarding. He has given me a gift...
These children have blessed me with their talents and with thier obedience. Having home-schoolers to work with makes my job so easy...seriously. I am so excited to see this coming together.
Keep Praying for us, the next three days will take alot of patience - work- and stretching outside of thier comfort zones!!
Tomorrow we are off to the theatre!! Day 1 - Home's Cool Drama Camp...Wow!! What a GRAND 1st day of Drama Camp! The auditions went really well - what a group of talented young people!!
I am so pleased with how the first day went - without a hitch - seriously!!
I had 27 students - ages 7 - 12 ; along two teenage helpers (2 others bailed on me two days before camp - nice, huh?) and a few moms hung around checking kids in, registering others, applying sunscreen - we were outside all day at our farm.
I held auditons with the help of my music director - it was inspiring to see these kids show their talents, quite a few were shy, quiet... but there were others who gave it their all and still others who shined... I think we are going to have a great show...
One more day here at the farm and then we are off to the theatre the rest of the week ending with a performance and cast party Friday.
Keep praying for us!! It is easy to control the environment to a point in your own home, once we get in the theatre, the scales become a bit more unbalanced... Home's Cool Drama CampJust over a week remains to pull together all the details for my first Drama Camp. I have been a part of the industry for many years, only working with kids the last three years when the co-op asked me to teach a drama class - the rest is history they say... Now we are hosting our first home school drama - how do you like my name? Home's Cool Drama Camp!! My daughter and I came up with it as the name for our homeschool almost 4 years ago - Home' s Cool Academy. It is only fitting to attach it to the camp.
I have almost 30 students registered... I am excited and nervous. God has opened up doors that seem unreal - a small dinner theater that once thrived in this small town we call home, has been offered for our use... I stumbled upon it when I shared my vision of a drama camp with the owner of a Christian Coffee Shop... who knew she is the owner of the theatre?
It is so cool! The stairs leading up are old and creaky, when you arrive at the top it opens up to reveal a place where music once roared back in the twenties. The long red bar takes up one wall, while the half moon stage expands into the center of the room. I can almost hear the big bands playing like days of old... And it is all ours to use!!
I had planned an outdoor performance on our wrap-around porch - with the parents sitting in their lawn chairs sipping lemonade - but to have a real theatre -- who could pass that up?
Every step along the way has come with grace, most of the students live more than 20 miles from our place out in the country and their committment to travel 5 days a week all the way out here will be a blessing.
My prayer now is for parental help - volunteers to man the stations and help with games, crafts, costumes and staging.... my gift is in the idea - the creating - having people who can make those ideas fit together is what I need!
I also need to pray to release some of the responsibilty, we creative types can be pretty protective of our plan - not because we don't trust anyone - the fear of rejection is what drives it... so we become narsacistic almost. Wanting the help, yet, not trusting anyone; double edged sword.
Pray for me, for the students and for the parents as we embark on this journey...
