Nov. 28, 2007 - BFS - Assignment #1

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I actually completed this assignment on time, but inadvertently deleted it from my blog, so here it is again. I am going to try and catch up on all of the assignments that I have missed, so stay tuned.

The Assignment:

A. Give a brief introduction paragraph on how you got started blogging and your personal goals for journaling.

My first blog was at Homeschool Blogger almost 2 years ago. It was a great success with a whopping 1 entry! I gave blogging another try when my hubby bought me a MAC. It was super easy and I actually blogged more than once, though far from consistently. Then at the beginning of the school year I decided to give it one more try. I had the best of intentions, but as you can read in my previous entry, Life just gets in the way sometimes. I haven't lost hope though; I am determined to create my own little niche in the blogging community.

My goal in blogging is to create a place where I can meet other mom's with similar interests and create a place where family and friends can come to see what we are up to.

B. Share a "dream" place to blog in picture if you can. My dream place to blog would be on the porch of a cabin in the mountains overlooking a beautiful array of fall foliage.

C. Answer some questions to tell us more about you:

1. What time do you usually blog?

I am shamelessly addicted to my computer, but I don't have a particular time that I like to blog. I guess whenever I feel inspired.

2. What is your favorite drink?

At one point I would have said Coke, but in recent weeks I have been drinking Pepsi with Lime. I also enjoy an occasional White Chocolate Mocha.

3. What is your favorite book?

I don't necessarily have a favorite book, but here are a few of my favorite authors: Beverly Lewis, Elizabeth George, Max Lucado.

4. What is your favorite dessert?

Ice Cream

5. Share a scripture that has been an inspiration in your growth with Christ.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer adn petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7

Nov. 28, 2007 - The Best of Intentions

I started this blog back in September with the intention of sharing our homeschool journey with family and friends on a regular basis.  I really do enjoy blogging, but sometimes life just gets in the way.

Six days after I started my blog, I* and I went to Indiana to visit family.  When we arrived at my Aunts house, I got the devistating news that my baby brother had taken his life early that morning at my father's grave.  We lost our father in January after a short battle with cancer and my little brother just couldn't put the pieces back together.  Suicide leaves so many questions, but I have learned to rest in the peace that passes all understanding.  I miss him dearly and I wish that during his short life I would have done more to assure him how much he was loved.

One of the things we had planned to do on our visit was to spend some time with my grandparents.  My Grandmother was in the hospital, but was supposed to be released sometime while we were there.  Grandma and Grandpa had just celebrated their 66th anniversary and hadn't spent much time apart since WWII.   I am so glad that we got to spend time with them, because on Thursday, six days after I lost my little brother, Grandma went to be with Jesus.  She was surrounded with family and friends as she received her ultimate healing and as hard as it was to let go, I am blessed by the legacy she left behind.

Quintin's funeral was Friday and Grandma's was planned for Monday.  For a brief moment, I really thought that God had given me more than I could handle, but His timing is so perfect.  Friday's funeral was so hard.  Saying goodbye to someone so young and with so many unanswered questions is a very difficult thing to do.  I dreaded Monday!  But, God in His infinite wisdom knew that Monday would bring peace.  Grandma's funeral was a beautiful celebration of her life.  Sure it was hard to say that final goodbye, but to know that she is with Jesus and to honor her legacy was an unexpected blessing of joy.

It seems like 2007 has been a season of loss for my family, but in each goodbye, God afforded me at least a glimmer of hope.  I'm hanging on to that.  I'm believing that goodbye is nothing more than "in a little while."

So, with the best of intentions, l am determined to begin again.

Blessings,

Jessica

Sep. 9, 2007 - Reminded of our Purpose

I was browsing through some blogs this evening when I ran accross this.  It is such a wonderful reminder of the purpose for homeschooling our son.

Training Loving Hearts Commitment Pledge:

We are a Christian family desiring to raise our child with the primary focus of training his heart.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.  III John 1:4

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6

Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it      might go well with them and their children forever!  Deuteronomy 5:29

Sep. 8, 2007 - Reflections of the Road Behind Us

It is hard to believe that we have just started our third year of homeschooling.  Where does the time go?  It seems like only yesterday we were sitting around the kitchen table discussing the pro's and con's of pulling I* out of public school.  I will never forget the that evening, because my husband and I learned a lesson of faith from our little boy.  You see, we were so busy thinking about all of the practical reasons it was time to bring I* home when our little boy had the most important reason in mind all along.  When we asked him what he thougt the pro's of homeschooling were, the first thing out of his mouth was that he could learn about Jesus at school.  In fact he didn't have a single reason why he thought he should return to a classroom full of peers.  Looking back, we can see that he was so right.

It has been an amazing journey filled with laughter and tears, trials and triumphs, hard work, and determination but we are encouraged by the promise that if we trust in the Lord, He will direct our paths.  We have truly enjoyed learning together and look forward to the year ahead.

Enjoy these momentos of our first day of school
