Yay!! My first entry in my Homeschool Blogger account! I have blogs elsewhere but this one will be about mostly school stuff, although I'll certainly have life stories in here because how can you seperate the two?
Four weeks to the big day!! Adisson will officially start school on August 4. I wouldn't mind it being a little sooner than that, but I don't know if I'll be ready before that anyway. We'll be trying to get as much school done as possible before the holidays as shortly after Christmas, Daddy is coming home!! Last "year" Adisson did a lot of Kindergarten stuff so we've moved on to some First Grade material, but this will still be his Kindergarten year...so says the state of Kentucky. I'll be mailing our letter of intent tomorrow! I'm so excited! What homeschool stuff do we use you ask? Well, I guess I'm an eclectic homeschooler. After a homeschool convention this year, I think I found some different things that Adisson would enjoy. So for Phonics, we are using Hooked on Phonics. (HOP gets a bad rap among homeschoolers and I'm not really sure why. I think it's an amazing program and it has worked so well for us. If it's not broken, I'm not fixing it.) For Bible studies we are using Explorer Bible Studies as I LOVE the way it is broken down for us day by day and how it's so amazingly easy to read from! For Handwriting we are using Draw Write Now. For Math, Science, Health, and Social Studies we are using A Beka. All of the above coupled with some Five in a Row learning. Speaking of Five in a Row. Well, we tried it last year. And it truly is as amazingly simple as it looks. Because I think Adisson would learn a little better with a hands on approach and because he truly enjoys worksheets, I picked up A Beka for this year. However, because I am still so intrigued by Five in a Row, we'll continue to utilize FIAR and I do have a sneaking suspicion that we'll be back to enjoy it exclusively. We'll see.... :)
Zander Wallace on the other hand will be using Arts and Crafts from A Beka and learning with Before Five in a Row. He'll be two later this year and I want to have things ready and available to him as in the coming months I don't think Adisson and I will be able to get all of his school work done before Zander wakes up from his nap. So to have "school" stuff ready for Zander while we finish up a lesson will definitely be an advantage. And Zander likes to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING his big brother does!! So there we are, in a few paragraphs. At least that's where we are right now. :) As with anything, it could all change so quickly. My main purpose for our blog, at least our homeschooling blog is to really be able to share with my husband all that we are working on since he isn't home. We miss him so much and hopefully he'll be able to see all the boys are learning and doing these next several months that he's gone. { Last Page } { Page 2 of 2 } { Next Page } |
