Arrows in the Hand

I thought I would give everyone a peek at what we are doing right now. We are using A Beka in most subjects..kind of.
In science I am using abeka's exploring Gods world 3 with all the kids, we are not going in their order and not having tests. Abeka doesn't have science for k4 and the 1st grade science is ..well dull. We are going a lot slower then your supposed to go because be are doing a lapbook and reading other books. We are studying about insects right now and I am amazed how much the kids are learning!  As you can see from the picture even Ben is growing his love for bugs!! After this we will move on to vertebrae which will include a trip to the zoo!!

In history we are reading Little house in the Big Woods and doing a lapbook with that. We learned about Columbus in Abeka but have put off moving forward with abeke right now. The homeschool group in our area has scheduled a field trip that is all about pioneer life.. you know the type of place that dress up in pioneer clothes and everything. Well that will be Sept 22 and we can't wait!. Anyways, I am loving it the book and so are the kids, they beg me to read more. I know the kid's will want to read the all the little house books so I don't know if we will move on with abeka or keep learning about pioneer life and how it changes till we are done with the little house books. What do you think? If we read them on the side while doing abeka we won't be able to do all the fun things like lapbooks I just don't think we would have time for both.

Godo for you guys! Love the picture. We are in the midst of an insect study -- we are enjoying it.

As for what to do about history. I would continue on with what they are enjoying. If they enjoy reading the books, go for it. Include your history that way -- the time period, the food, the dress, the pioneering days ( I would LOVE to attend one of those ). Dont get bogged down with 'doing' history, just go with what your kids are enjoying and what they are getting the most out of. Good for you!!
