• Oct. 11, 2008 - Malachi 4:6 family prayer
He will change parents' attitudes toward their children and children's attitudes toward their parents. If not, I will come and reclaim my land by destroying you." Malachi 4:6 (Gods Word translation)
Every Tuesday we ditch school( LOL) and head to IHOP for family harp and bowl for TWO hours.

I must admit when we first moved to Missouri, last June, I didn't know if the kids could make it for two hours of prayer or if they would drive me crazy with cries is hunger (its between 10:00 and 12:00) but I was determined to start the kids doing the whole two hours so they wouldn't get use to leaving early. It has been so wonderful and I have learned just as much as the children. As you can see we have a large group. You know there is just nothing more powerful than watching children praying with their whole hearts.
The Lord is really changing my heart and the way I view my children. He is bring us closer together and given us back the year that the Locust stole(or I guess the year I allowed him to steal when we sent the girls to school).

• Aug. 28, 2008 - what we are up to!!
I thought I would give everyone a peek at what we are doing right now. We are using A Beka in most subjects..kind of.
In science I am using abeka's exploring Gods world 3 with all the kids, we are not going in their order and not having tests. Abeka doesn't have science for k4 and the 1st grade science is ..well dull. We are going a lot slower then your supposed to go because be are doing a lapbook and reading other books. We are studying about insects right now and I am amazed how much the kids are learning! As you can see from the picture even Ben is growing his love for bugs!! After this we will move on to vertebrae which will include a trip to the zoo!!
In history we are reading Little house in the Big Woods and doing a lapbook with that. We learned about Columbus in Abeka but have put off moving forward with abeke right now. The homeschool group in our area has scheduled a field trip that is all about pioneer life.. you know the type of place that dress up in pioneer clothes and everything. Well that will be Sept 22 and we can't wait!. Anyways, I am loving it the book and so are the kids, they beg me to read more. I know the kid's will want to read the all the little house books so I don't know if we will move on with abeka or keep learning about pioneer life and how it changes till we are done with the little house books. What do you think? If we read them on the side while doing abeka we won't be able to do all the fun things like lapbooks I just don't think we would have time for both.

• Aug. 20, 2008 - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!
Today was our first day of school for this school year! It went real smooth today, even Ben was really good (so far so good!). Nathaniel was sooo excited to be in k4 but is quick to tell everyone that next year he would be in kindergarten. The girls shirts say Yes I'm homeschool, yes I'm socialized, and yes I had class today. I wish I would have ordered Nate a shirt when I ordered theirs.

This is them working on their Bible notebooking pages we are doing bible using Kids for kids which is a free devotion you can hear online (he is a great storyteller) or print it out and read it to them yourself. We listen online then reread the verse(s) and then do a notebook page about what we learned. I made these up myself and made Nate one were he could just draw a picture since he can not write yet. Ben is just color his own picture! We pray that God blessed you homeschool day today too! |

• Aug. 19, 2008 - homeschooling

I am one of those Homeschool Moms who will try and do too much. I am trying to learn from my past mistakes and this time let God teach me what to teach my kids. He put it on my heart to teach the girls to pray (which is why we started the prayer journals or notebook). I was very surprised by Him asking me this because I thought we had already taught them to pray! And we had taught 2 little girls to pray at the level they could as toddlers..preschoolers but now they have grown up some and it was time for their pray time to mature also. I must admit that I have had a hard time moving from mom of little kids to now having more big kids than I do babies. I have really fought the Lord when it has comes to homeschooling. It is sad but I have said many times I wish that I could have keep all of them from turning 5 so I would not have to make the school decision! I really wanted to homeschool but did not want to take on the responsibility. Didn't want things to change from the way they were (hope that makes since), well as you know even when your kids go to school things change. I could not keep them preschoolers, could not make time stand still. I have to learn to enjoy the new season of life that I am in but I am sure when this season has passed I will not want it to end either. I have fully surrendered to God about homeschooling after trying to figure out what to do on my on, going from homeschool to Christian school than homeschool than public school!
Still growing up in God,
Nicole |
