Interruptions
If there is one word for this last week it is interruptions. We have been knocked off our regular schedule this week. First we had a new heat pump installed, then I ended up being very ill for a few days. I am surprised we made it through the week at all! My daughter is moving along smoothly through the lessons. She is almost done with chapter 1 in math. She had her first computer lesson yesterday. We have been learning about our senses for awhile now. This week it was the sense of sight. We also read and learned about the story of the gingerbread man. I gave her a short sewing lesson at the end of our day today. She has picked up everything with very little trouble. I am just amazed at the difference. I am enjoying having more time with her. I am not even sure how to describe how I feel, it's been such an amazing experience so far and I love teaching her. I have found so many helpful resources on the internet, I don't know what I would have done without it! There are so many resources, I'd be here all day listing them! But my daughter and I looked at live pictures of the sun from the web site www.earthsky.org yesterday. If you have time, check this site out, it has alot of neat stuff on it. Well, bye until next week!

On to week two
We just wrapped up our second week. Things are going more smoothly as we are getting more used to our routine. Soon we will be adding a few things to our routine. My daughter has decided to take ballet, so she will do that once a week. My husband insisted that she be involved in some kind of activity when we agreed to homescool. At first she wanted to do ballet, soccer and baseball. I thought that for right now, that was just too much. So I made her pick just one thing and she chose ballet. I will also be introducing her to sewing next week. I learned to sew at the age of 8 and have been making alot of things ever since. I am almost certain my daughter will enjoy it just as much. I feel everyone should learn to sew. This week we finished up learning about colors. It has been alot of fun as I have been able to include my younger children in the color tree project we worked on. And they all loved to make a mess with the paints! Most of the time, I am able to get the younger children included into the lessons. But when I am not able to, I just have them play with the legos or color. I am just so glad my daughter is really enjoying learning now.

Just starting out
We are in our first year of homeschooling. My oldest daughter, who is six, had completed a year of kindergarten in public school. That turned out to be a disaster from the first day. She struggled and I would help her when she got home from school each night. She would spend all day at school and two to three hours working on school stuff when she got home. She had no time to play or be a kid. She and I were both miserable all year long and she ended up not passing. So after much soul searching, I decided to homeschool her. I had planned on going to college to pursue a career, that would involve alot of traveling, and decided that was no longer important. My children come first! I was very nervous at first, but we have now completed our first week and I could not be happier with my decision. We are using Calvert's ATS kindergarten program and are very pleased with it so far. She has learned alot already and has really enjoyed it. I have two other children as well that are following along. They are four and two and they have enjoyed it as well. I am enjoying this experience. I guess all the time I spent as a child playing school with my younger brother is paying off now!ha!ha!
