The Earth is Shaking! The Earth is Shaking!

Posted in Narrations

This week I read in my geography book about how geographers can read seismic waves to get an idea of what the center of the earth is like. The reason they can do this is because of the two types of seismic waves: Primary(P) waves and Secondary(S) waves. Both types of waves travel through the earth, emitting from the central point of the earthquake. The difference is the fact that S waves cannot travel through a liquid, but will either bounce back or turn into the aforementioned P waves. Therefore, if an earthquake occurs in beijing, a geographer in new york could see P waves and guess that there must be some liquid between the two pieces of crust.

Just wanted to tell you that I am impressed with your narrations -- your use of appropriate and sophisticated words, your obvious knowledge and interest of the subject, and the variety of sentence structure. Good job!

I agree, you are doing a great job expressing your thoughts in a mature and interesting fashion. I would not underestimate how interesting it is for your readers to hear the facts and tidbits from your readings. I also would suggest that you consider a very limited use of "Today I read....". In some of your posts you dove right in discussing the facts that you have learned. When you can put them in your own words, then they become your knowledge that you share with us vs. qualifying that you read this in a book. Great job on your work! Keep it up. The beauty of blogging is that you don't have to stick to any one subject. People will love to just hear your thoughts and observations on what you are encountering in your life. :)
