Moving towards a simpler life...

It's been a long time!

Wow, it's been awhile since I've blogged here!   :)

Let me catch up --

Tons of good things that have happened... we moved into a rental house in May; we sold our old home in the city; we started building our new home in the country in October and DH has been working so hard on building our dream home; I've survived Christmas shopping/preparation so far and it's all coming together nicely; and best of all, we're looking forward again to homeschooling.  Yipppeee!!!!

The not so good... I decided to try out DS in the new local public school this year for 3rd grade --> and we will be returning to homeschooling shortly... very shortly... like next week shortly.  ;)    Why did it take me so long to realize that it's not a particular school district that I don't like, it's the whole government ran shabang that I don't care for.  Oh, and all the bratty kids (and clueless parents) at those schools too!  Never, never, never again.  DH and I are so very commited to never making that mistake again; and even though I've been wishy/washy before, I know I can do a good job of teaching my children.  I will never doubt myself again!

So, that's about it in a nutshell.   ;)    DS will be continuing 3rd grade (with a lot of review because he fell behind while in PS) and DD will begin some preschool work -- then start kindergarten in the Fall.

Bring it on!

Happy Holidays everyone!!

--> Organization is very important! <--

Okay, so this is our first week back to school and it's going good.  We are still waiting on the language arts curriculum I purchased (guessing I should've paid the extra $$ for faster shipping...) so I've pulled out some worksheets to keep his little mind going.  Math is good, we're repeating alot but I guess that's pretty normal considering he's had the summer off.

The one thing I've noticed is that I really need to be more organized -- and I mean really, really more organized!  I am really gonna work on that ASAP!!  My house is totally unorganized and my homeschool/dining room is totally unorganized too... not a good combination!

I also need to get more things to keep my dd who's almost 3 busy while my ds is doing his work.  She wants to do some "work" too, so maybe I can figure out some fun things for her.

I requested to get the Charlotte Mason book from the local library.  I'm looking forward to reading that -- I hear it's really good.

I hope everyone's having a great week!  Bye!

Today's the day!

Well, today we are officially back to school!  Hip hip HOORAY!  My son is *very* excited to be starting 2nd grade --> he's looking forward to digging into his new books, doing fieldtrips around Nashville (we've planned out several already!), doing experiments with his science curriculum (looks really cool --> hopefully we won't blow up anything!), and looking at slides with his new microscope (thanks to Aunt Marilyn!).  We are ready to go!  And I love the fact that he's so excited... I'm just wondering how long that will last!  LOL  :)

On the birthday front for my little girl who will be turning 3 next week, the party is completely planned!  Another hip hip HOORAY!  I bought the cake pan (Wilton castle pan), bought all the table goodies last week (princess plates, napkins, etc...), and I ordered the moonwalk rental for the day (what kid doesn't love to bounce all over one another all day long?!?).  I am so glad to have all that planning out of the way -- and she's super excited to be turning 3.  I thought she might have a melt down because she kept saying she just wanted to be 2, but now I guess 3 isn't sounding too bad either.  :)  I won't bother to tell her how old I'll be this year I guess!  :)  LOL

I hope everyone has a great week!

One last weekend before school starts!

Well, it's official, this is our last weekend before starting school on Monday.  We decided to start a little early (public schools around here start on 8/14) but this will allow us to end early and have some 4 day weeks every now and again.  We are all pretty excited too, so that helps (hence the dancing man up there!).

I haven't received the books I ordered yet -- I guess they just kinda take their time with shipping, huh?  Next time I will order plenty in advance!  But that's okay, I've got plenty to keep us busy until they arrive (crossing my fingers that it's soon still!).

Today me & the kids went to the Frist Museum in downtown Nashville (very neat, cool place!).  Right now the exhibit is "Egypt: The Quest for Immortality".  My son has been in love with learning about all things Ancient Egypt for over 2 years now    --> kinda freaked the other kindergarters out with the whole mummification process several years ago --> so this was really up his alley.  This collection was very impressive, it's amazing just looking at the exhibit and realizing how much work it took to make such beautiful, detailed pieces.  We all really, really enjoyed it.  Even my 3 year old daughter did fairly well throughout the exhibit (okay, well, she was strapped in her stroller... LOL!).  We became musuem members so now we can go visit other exhibits.  And the museum has a really cool website with tons of Egyptian facts/exhibit pictures --> go to "egyptatthefrist.org" and take a look around!

Well, I've got a busy weekend ahead with making sure everything is in check for Monday morning.  And my daughters 3rd birthday party is next weekend too -- so I'm still running around trying to plan for it too!  Fun, fun!

Woo hooo!! One thing off my "to do" list!

Well, I'm pretty excited!

I just ordered the curriculum that we'll be using this school year (2nd grade).  After much thought, I decided to go with Harcourt Brace for both Math & Language Arts (I ordered the student books & practice books to go with them).  Last year we used Alpha-Omega Horizons for Math & Language Arts and we enjoyed it but this year I wanted to try something different.

I already have some older spelling texts, science texts and a social studies text that will work in perfectly for what we'll be doing.  I really want these areas to be more fun, hands-on learning instead of so much book work so I probably won't use these texts too much anyways.  So, we now have a plan!  And having a plan is good enough for me!

I really want to find some cool pre-K stuff for my 3 year old though... anyone have any ideas?

Looking forward to this year!

Hi everyone!  After reading different blogs on here for over a year, I thought I'd create one of my own.  We are fairly new to homeschooling but we are sooo excited about what lies ahead for us.  We decided to pull our son from the public school system and homeschool him last year during his 1st grade school year.  That was the best decision we could've made!  This year will be our first full year and we are looking forward to it.  Our son is now starting 2nd grade and our daughter will be pre-pre-school (she wants to go to "big girl school" too so I'll be giving her some little "work" to do too!).

Also, during this year we will begin building our own home on our land in the country.  It's another dream come true for us.  I'm really looking forward to leaving this city life behind!  So, I'm sure this year will be super busy -- but fun at the same time!  Take care everyone!  Happy reading!
