Well, I think I’ve really said about all I will about the brainwashing. I have thought about what else I might add, and nothing comes to mind. I could give more explicit details about the ordeal, but I do not believe that would be edifying, and I also do not wish to glorify the sin committed against me, either.
On to the next topic.
I have a dear friend, sajolley, that I got to spend some time with Friday night, and that was such a pleasure. Some people I just really like to be around. She is one of them.
I thought I might share some things I tell my children. I remember lots of sayings that my Grandmother and Mom had that I either alternately found odd or simply annoying. One was “six of one, half a dozen of the other.” I still think that is such a waste of words. Why can’t you just say “it’s the same thing.” Try saying “six of one, half a dozen of the other.” It doesn’t roll off the tongue. Too bizarre.
But, to my children. . . ah, wisdom just rolls of my tongue—NOT!. Anyway, I at least like to have some point to what I am telling them. And so: When they are doing something strange (I will not be specific, here, I KNOW you understand), I will ask them why they are doing it. If the answer is I don’t know. . . I will tell them, “If you don’t know why you are doing it, you shouldn’t be doing it.”
This makes a point—am I right? Those things your mother told you over and over again, you remember them, point or no point, right? (Remember pretty is as pretty does?)
Another one is, “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.”
That covers so many things. We are capable of so much—but does it edify? Is it helpful? Is there a point?
You know, sometimes, the second one might just follow the first one.
Motherhood. You gotta love it!
Hope you all have a Great Memorial Day. We are spending time with my parents. Very nice.
