Enjoy spending some time with Bill as he first takes your children
for a lesson in Math – making it fun and easy for them!
Bill will then spend some time with the parents, offering the parents
tips and strategies to implement a fun and self directed love of
learning in their children. Bill will also go over offering the
parents strategies to assist them as they teach their children Easy
Math.
While the parents are spending some time with Bill, the children will
be safely supervised. We are currently working on a range of
exciting activities to offer to the children, and will update an
activity list and pricing ASAP.
The children will then return, where Bill will again work with the
children to reinforce and reiterate his math strategies, to give them
all the optimal opportunity to understand and grasp the concepts.
To ensure that this opportunity is available to as many people as
possible, we will be running two sessions. Numbers are strictly
limited.
To hold your place, email Jenni at ohana@aanet.com.au
When: Thursday 8th November 2007
Where: Sunbury
Time: Session One: 10am – 1pm Session Two: 2pm – 5pm
Cost: To be finalised – there will be a lower cost for HEA
members.
Included: Morning or Afternoon Tea
Southern Fleurieu Peninsula Home Education Group (known as the
'Tuesday Group') will meet again on August 14th at 2pm at Encounter
Bay, Victor Harbor. All welcome. Bring an afternoon snack if you like,
some books and toys for the children. Contact Kate kategibbons506@hotmail.com for directions
I'm starting a play group for home-educated children under four in
Brisbane. We'll meet from 10am until 12pm every Wednesday starting
1st August, 2007(except school holiday times).
Venue: "The Blue Room" under St Andrew's Anglican Church, 160 Vulture
St, South Brisbane.
Contribution: $2 for one child or $3 for a family.
BYO sandwiches/food for your family. We have access to a
kitchenette. (We will need to sweep up after ourselves.)
Who is the group for?
The group is auspiced by the Playgroup Association of Queensland and
will be listed on their website with a note that the Wednesday group
is specifically for home-educators or those checking out home ed as
an option. For insurance reasons participants will need to join the
QLD Playgroup Associaton by their 3rd visit (this is a $28 annual
membership fee) Unfortunately, this insurance only covers children
aged under 5, but it is my intention that this group will focus on
children in the 6-month to 3.5 year sort of age range, anyway, as
there seem to be several groups around catering for older children.
We will have access to all the playgroup toys and equipment already
used by another play group that meets in the same space on another
day.
Feel free to come along just to check it out for a couple of weeks.
The more the merrier to start with!

Friday 28 July, 6.30-9pm with light refreshments and telescope viewing after the talk at Melbourne Planetarium with David Malin, Anglo-Australian Observatory and RMIT University.
Because they are so faint, we are unable to see the stars in colour. Even fainter are the nebulae, places where stars form from dust and gas. But colour is undoubtedly there, and the light from many star-forming regions is often almost monochromatic, the most saturated colours that can be.
David will discuss how these elusive colours arise and what they tell us about the chemistry and physics of outer space. He will also show how the interplay of starlight, gas and dust produces some of the most alluring and colourful cosmic landscapes, as much a part of the natural world as any terrestrial scene.
Cost: $15, including a complimentary Planetarium pass to be used on your next visit to Scienceworks. Bookings essential, contact (03) 9392 4819. More information: www.museum.vic.gov.au/planetarium
