Nov. 27, 2006 - Honeycomb-Psalms 19:10

Since it is fall, it is time to harvest honey, from the beehives.
I got on my gear and went in. The bees were a little protective of their Winter honey store and I got stung twice. They are not normally like that though.
My favorite part is the honeycomb. Most people have never even had any. They are missing so much! I don't need chocolate, soda or coffee: just HONEYCOMB!
This is a picture of one of the sections of comb.

We have what looks like a box. Inside we put frames. Inside every frame is four small boxes like the one you saw above. All you have to do is pull the wood off the outside and you will have a square of honeycomb to eat! Some of you are probably wondering if you chew the wax up with the honey. The answer is yes! It is actually VERY good for you! I chew up a chunk, and then, after a minute, all I have left is a ball of wax. This ball of wax can be chewed like bubblegum.
Now comes the important lesson from this blog. Do you know what the Bible says is sweeter than a honeycomb? Look in Psalms 19:10. You will have to look back and see what "are they" refers too. There are many verses that refer to honey and honeycomb as sweet as something but this one says sweeter than which tells me this must be really good!

Ok, without looking...More to be desired are they than gold, yeah than much fine gold, sweeter also than honey, and the honeycomb.

The law of the Lord, the statues of the Lord, the fear of the Lord, The judgments of the Lord...all talking about the Word of God.

Now off to double check my answer.

I've had it but don't care very much for the wax. But it is still very good.

As I sit here eating my yogurt, my mouth is watering for honeycomb! I have never had any, but it sounds really good! Not fair making me crave something I can't have!!!

Honey straight from the hive, what a treat. Sorry you got stung on the journey, but the reward is worth it. I hope you left the bees some honeycomb to see them through the winter :)

And speaking of stings, my youngest got stung on the eye today.

I don't sell my honey yet. Some day. Hopefully next Spring we can begin to do that. I think it would be especially good because I don't ever use ANYTHING on my bees. I don't medicate them and use chemicals in the hive. You would be surprised how many people who do.

I grew up with a dad who raised bees and we loved to chew the honeycomb when he extracted honey.
Then my dh raised bees a few years while we lived in Philadelphia, no less. But he lost 2 hives to mites and gave up there. We would do it again, but now we have bears to deal with, so it isn't part of our life right now. They are fascinating insects though.
