Feb. 12, 2007 - Mentos Experiment

Posted in Things to do
I am sure that most of you have seen this before, but have you lived it? We finally did it! Here are the photos-

The first bottle happened so quick that this is the only photo I got!

Daddy and daughter are preparing to do #2
The bottle sits up well in the snow.

Daddy holds the paper tube with Mentos. Savannah holds the business card underneath it. When they were ready she pulled the card and RAN! This released the Mentos causing them to fall into the soda.

She was so quick that she was already out of the photo! You can see the soda shooting up.

Higher!

It happens so fast! It is already getting smaller again.

Almost done!

Done.

If you haven't seen the Mentos Experiment video you can see it on birdbrain's blog...he has a bunch of other cool ones too. The Mentos one is the third one down.

If you are curious about WHY this happens you can go here.

Feb. 13, 2007 - Mentos and Pop Recipes

Posted by Mom- Grandma GinaMae
I have never seen that experiment before, that is really something! Imagine how that would bloat in your stomach.. In one of your blogs I mentioned potato cakes, I am sending you a real good recipe, you will have to try, also I will send this recipe called "Potato Puffs", I use to make this when Ricky was still living at home, a good way to use up left over mashed potatoes.

" Hash Brown Potatocakes"

Mix together;

4 c. frozen shredded hash brown potatoes, thawed

1 c. BisQuick baking mix

1/2 small diced onion

1/2 t. salt

1/2 t. pepper

Whisk together;

1/2 c. milk

1 large egg

Add this to the potato mixture, stir until moistened. Pour oil 1/2 " into skillet, heat to 350. Drop potato mixture by tablespoonfuls into the hot oil, fry on both sides. Drain on paper towels.

" Potato Puffs "

Mix together;

1 c. mashed potatoes [ left overs work good ]

1 egg

Add;

1 t. baking powder

1 t. salt

1/2 c. flour

2 T. milk

Drop by small teaspoonfuls into hot oil. Cook until golden brown. Drain on paper towel. * I always would dice up some onion and put it the mixture, real good! I would imagine that you could add tiny ham pieces and maybe a little shredded cheese, that would be real good! I hope that you all enjoy these recipes.

"All my love" , talk to you later.

I keep on telling myself that I want to do that- my husband saw a couple of guys do a ton of them together on You-tube, and he's wanted to do it since. It looks like you had fun!

I've been wanting to do that. Do you think it would work with diet Pepsi? I have some in my basement collecting dust.

We can't wait to try this for ourselves. It would have been very fun to do it with BIL here on Tuesday, but alas, I refuse to do this experiment without photographic proof. ;o) Plus Tuesday wasn't the best weather to do it in. I think I was clearing the back steps every half hour at one point, trying to make sure they were clear for my dad.

Cameron is loving his box. We only had one little mishap with the markers. He used them on his dry erase marker board. But it cleaned up well and he now knows that they are the right kid of markers.
