Rick can walk LONG distances now and can carry our fat little baby (not while walking). He will be perfectly capable of working full time very soon and I have been perfectly amazed at how he is progressing in his healing. He has been taking acupuncture in Mexico to help him get better which is much cheaper south of the border... about $25 compared to $60-$100 that he would have to pay in the states. Here are some photos of what acupuncture looks like but I must warn you that they are graphic. The wires that are red and black in some of the photos below electrically stimulate his body. Sometimes it does hurt for the needles to go in but most of them feel like a little prick that is not really painful. There were between 50 and 60 needles in him including one in the top of his head! DO NOT SCROLL DOWN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE GRAPHIC PHOTOS I AM POSTING THEM BECAUSE SOME FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL BE INTERESTED IN WHAT HE IS DOING AND ALSO FOR THE HEALTH NUT THAT IS CURIOUS...

This video was actually made in response to this other video I am posting. I figured that some people might be scared after watching it... hence my video response. |
Tuesday morning when my 5 yo was putting on shoes she got stung in the foot by a yellow jacket that was sitting in her shoe. We have been stung by these before and got big welts. This time I did the ususal- a little garlic and some lavender essential oil.. we were in a hurry to get into town. When we got there I took off her shoe and wiped off the garlic and put her sock back on... her foot was just red at this point. Normally we use plantain but we were in a hurry and just grabbed what we consider second best for bites. We have used garlic many times before and when I took the garlic off it was just welting so I know the garlic didn't burn the skin and cause blisters. By the next day her foot was covered in water blisters and her foot was super swollen including the toes!! I have never seen anything like this. That day (wednesday) she got bit again! This time it was on her thigh on the same leg! Poor thing. After seeing her foot I knew I would have to act quick. So I began applying garlic/onion/vinegar poultices with wet clothes and covering them with a warm water bottle hoping to drive the herbs in and get the poisin neutralized. I also gave her fresh garlic in honey, vitamin c, probiotics (full size adult capsules) and flax seed oil. This worked in not letting her thigh get so swollen and hot and covered in blisters as her foot had. Last night her foot was still so swollen that her toes were completely red. I remembered a tincture I made that was in the cupboard for joints of people with arthritis and other swelling issues so I gave her some. She has also gotten a few salt baths. She has a high tolerance for pain and says it doesn't hurt (except when I clean them)and she is not itching the wounds. By this morning, Thursday, her toes were back to normal size. The blisters are broken and believe it or not her foot is getting better slowly. Her thigh just has a few small water blisters forming that came up not long after I took the photo. If you examined the photo close you could probably see where they were going to come up. There are three small ones that formed. And the darkness of the skin- I don't know if this is actually bruising or if this is the skin being discolored............ I am not so worried about the swelling, believe it or not I think I have it under control. My question is this.... why did she react so bad when she has been stung by the same insects before and only gotten a welt? I have never heard of blisters and the skin looking like this before from yellow jackets. I know if you are allergic you can swell.... I am wondering if anyone has experience in the area of being able to tell if this is allergic reactions or if this is some form of a skin problem or infection entering the wounds.....?????? Any help?? I would like to know more in hopes of preventing problems in the future. After all, could you imagine if this was her face or something?? |
Over at Blogger Friend School they have requested a favorite food. Of course, you all know me, I am not going to give you something that is bad for you. Here is a favorite of mine that we had tonight-
Have you ever had hummus? Ohhhh yummmmmy.... that is what I say! Maybe you have never even had hummus. If you haven't you should try it because, while it is not green eggs and ham, you might find out you like it just as in the Dr. Suess book. Below is the recipe with all the questionable ingredients linked to a page to tell you what they are.And as always, I recommend that you use organic and fresh ingredients whenever possible... About a pound of cooked chickpeas (AKA garbanzo beans) 1/2 cup of tahini 3 tablespoons of water 3 tablespoons of lemon juice 2 tablespoons of olive oil 2 teaspoons of cumin 2 teaspoons of sea salt 1 clove of fresh garlic BTW let your food be your medicine. These links for Garlic, Cumin, Sea Salt and lemon will tell you the health benefits. The tricky part is blending it together. I use my Vitamix blender. You could use a kitchen aid food grinder, a juicer such as the Champion with the solid plate in, a food processor ect... Just blend all the ingredients together and wala you have hummus! I will warn you that mine usually comes out a little thicker than the stuff you buy at the store. I have substituted ingredients with great success. Tonight I am out of a bunch of ingredients because my Frankferd Farms order doesn't come until tomorrow. I didn't have any lemons so I used a pinch of vitamin c powder and some extra liquid. I am out of Olive Oil so I used macadamia nut oil. Tonight we ate ours in whole grain pita pockets. We smeared the hummus in the pita and then layered some alfalfa and sunflower seed sprouts in with lettuce and fresh greens. My husband also added a little dressing to his but I didn't. Olive oil drizzled in the lettuce would also be good. Another way we have had it is wrapped in homemade tortillas with the lettuce and sprouts. For the homemade tortilla recipe ::click here:: Please note that I recommend changes to that recipe though. I use REAL butter - not shortening, aluminum free baking powder, organic unbleached white flour and sea salt. Hummus also makes a great tortilla chip dip! If you would like to see other ladies favorite recipes click on the icon below and go read other blogs. ![]() And I almost forgot this part- do you know there are a lot of seasonings and food in the Bible? Here are some that have to do with this recipe-
We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic: Isaiah 28:25-When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place? ...............................................................For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod. Matthew 23:2 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. And SALT just has to many verses to list!!! |
| The bloggers that are members of Blogger Friend School have been talking about what they don't leave home without. So, I thought I would share too. I won't leave home without Lavander Essential Oil. It was about six months or so ago that our two year old, Benjamin, wheeled his big tonka truck up to a three wick candle that was on an end table. He stood in the bed of his big, yellow dump truck to peak in the candle but the truck rolled and taught him a lesson about wheels. As he fell he grabbed the candle and the hot wax spilled all down his back and then he hit the table on the way down. I rushed him into the shower and grabbed the lavender oil. I dumped it straight onto his back and GENTLY rubbed it in while the now harding wax chunks fell to the shower floor. When it was all said and done all he had was the battle wounds from falling. NO BURNS! Another friend of mine had a daughter that burnt in the sun really bad. I recommended the lavender oil. Much to my surprise (normally people don't listen) she listened and bought some that night. Her daughter practically healed over night. In case you are wondering lavender oil is safe to use on the skin full strength. I always buy mine from Mountain Rose Herbs. It is also a bug repellent and relaxing. I want to add cayenne to my diaper bag too since it can stop a heart attack. Just in case... And just to make you smile I will add something I forgot that I will never forget again.Once I forgot a kid at home. We didn't get to far before we figured it out and went back home for her. Now I do roll call so I'll never leave home without her again. |
![]() What is posted below I got in email form. It is something to consider doing... A better question than "Should we care about school lunches?" would be "should we have a federally run school system?" We will save that for another day though.... Believe it or not, school lunches are a reason I homeschool. They are totally unhealthy. So, if the government is going to waste are hard earned taxed dollars on feeding everyone elses kids we should at least make sure it is decent food! I am not so worried about vegetarian as I am about ORGANIC and whole foods. Right now school lunches are full or white sugar and flour, hydrogenated oils, unsafe luchmeat and hotdogs, food dyes and chemicals that are setting children up for obesity and diseases at a young age. Let me ask your help with an urgent matter. As you may know, Americans now eat more than 1 |
| I copied this from an article at aol news. Hot dogs typically contain muscle meat trimmings from pork or beef. Contrary to legend, they do not contain animal eyeballs, hooves or genitals, according to the Hot Dog Council's Janet Riley. But the government does allow them to contain pig snouts and stomachs, cow lips and livers, goat gullets and lamb spleens. If they have these byproducts, the label should spell out which ones, a U.S. Department of Agriculture spokeswoman said. (I don't think they do list them out by name) |
| Are you the type of parent that allows your child to have a diet soda now and then? I mean after all, how bad can it be? It is just one can, right? Or, maybe you buy your children sugar free candy because it is a better treat for them. Are you diabetic? You probably think that you have no choice but to replace sugar with nutrasweet, splenda or equal. Well, think again! DO NOT FEED THIS STUFF TO YOU OR YOUR FAMILY! Watch this documentary and you will understand what I am saying. And I don't want to hear any excuses about not having time or blah, blah, blah. There is NO excuse to not look into something when you are confronted with evidence that you could be harming your loved ones or yourself. You may also read this site for information about Splenda. |
The Cancer Project’s campaign is based on a comprehensive report released late last year by the American Institute for Cancer Research and the World Cancer Research Fund. After reviewing all existing data on nutrition and cancer risk, researchers concluded that processed meat increases one’s risk of colo****** cancer, on average, by 21 percent for every 50 grams consumed daily. (A 50-gram serving is approximately the size of a typical hot dog.) The landmark report clearly states that no amount of processed meat is considered safe to eat. Each year, 160,000 Americans are diagnosed with colo****** cancer. About half of all cases are already incurable when found. Approximately 50,000 Americans are expected to die of the disease this year. While the survey—released in late July—shows that considerable variation exists in different districts, it clearly reveals that many school menus are packed with processed meats. In fact, 15 of the 28 districts received a failing grade. For example, 60 percent of all elementary school breakfasts, 80 percent of all middle school breakfasts, and 80 percent of all high school breakfasts in the Los Angeles Unified School District contain processed meats. In Chicago, 30 percent of the regular lunches served to high school students include processed meats, and 58 percent of Chicago’s cold lunches contained processed meats. Only two school districts—Denver and San Francisco—received a “satisfactory” grade. I just realized after reading all this information today that I have one more reason to homeschool and one more reason NOT to eat hot dogs! Both of which I am already convinced are bad anyhow!
