Mar. 16, 2010 - New School year planning
Well the time has come again for our new school year planning. I love this part of homeschooling. I love to get everything together and order all the new curriculum. I am a little late this year because of our move to our "new" house. I now have a long awaited homeschool room. I have also been on 2 business trips since the move. As I look around my house I am still staring at boxes(waiting for me to find a home for those last odd things, which I wish I could throw away but just can't bring myself to) and tools(waiting for the next project)
I am waiting for the new Sonlight "handbook" to get here so I can review and make my final decisions. I have all my plans on paper and have ordered a few of the kids workbooks so far. My plans for next year looks like this(at the moment, but it can change)

Jan. 26, 2010 - trudging along
We have been deep in school mode since August (except for a Break for vacations here and there).
The girls are doing Sonlight Core 5 for history, Growing with Grammar, Writing Strands, Teaching Textbooks, Latins Not So Tough and a few other things. The boys are doing Core K and love it. E is also doing Handwriting without tears, Explode the Code and Math U See. S is also doing Handwriting without Tears, ETC, Math U SEE, Spelling Workout A, Writing With Ease, First Language Lessons. All of that is really going well and I feel this is a first in a long strand of many years!
Now, for Science- WE got a creation science set that is great for multi aged teaching, which I found out is not for me. I have had AIG's God's Design for Life and Heaven and Earth. We got though Animal and Plant worlds with great success but my girls (ages 10 and 12 were a little board). I had ordered the books from Sonlight for Core K and 5 and decied after my girls asked me to order the IG's so they have a schedule to work through. I am sooooo glad I did. Keeps me on track with the boys and the girls just love everthing thing about it!
We are now in the process of moving and I have proved to my husband that I am the worst packer ever. LOL. but we will now have a nice big place. and better yet I will have a homeschool room to store all this stuff that is piled in every corner! I am so excited. We hope to be moved in 3 weeks. Trying to balance school and packing is a challenge!
Well, that is just a quick up date.

Circle Time Review
This is the time we use to pray together and go over what needs to be done for the day. It keeps the kids on track for the day and they can ask any questions that have come up. I find that going over problems that have occurred the day before the morning after, when they are refreshed works better then when they are so frustrated, so we save all the big problems for this time. I find though that since we do morning review we have less problems occurring during the school day.
Guided/Independent
Because my boys are 4 and 5 I do most of their school with them. This includes History, Science, Literature, Phonics, Grammar and Math. I do Spelling first thing with the girls then the girls have their schedules and move through Math, Language, Handwriting, Phonics, Home Ec., Art and Greek by themselves unless a problem comes up. I have worked hard with my girls (ages 10 and 11) on becoming very independent with their school work. This year I can really see the benefits of this. They are now self motivated and very diligent in completing work.
Lunch
I try to have the boys done with their “school” before lunch. The girls are done most of their busy workbook subjects and now have the afternoon for reading and such.
Reading
The girls have their assigned reading. This includes History, Literature and Readers. They also take turns reading to the boys their assigned school books
History/Science
At this time I review with the girls through narration and comprehension questions. I love narration and comprehension to keep up with what they are doing and checking that they are understanding it all. We work on Science together 2 days a week.
Literature (Read Aloud)
Mom Reads From Assigned Read Aloud (usually from the boys list). To be honest I don’t get to this everyday. Sometimes Daddy will read or the older kids will pick up the book and read.

Feb. 18, 2009 - CHORES AND KIDS
Once again it is time to redo the Chore list! I have gone back to my master list and redoing everything.
Chores in our home are life as my children know it. There is no choice, it is just a result of being apart of our wonderful family. In our family everyone has many jobs to do so that we can accomplish what God has called us to do. I find though it is now time to rearrange the chores and give the little ones more to do.
I find for us that if we don't get the bulk of the work done in the morning it doesn't get done. So I am dividing up tasks into the days of the week. I find they get so much more done this way. I am giving myself a chore list to. These are things that I just don't seem to get around to doing, but need to. Maintaining your home on a consistent basis makes life so much easier. We never have a whole day of cleaning we do little bits each day and the house always looks nice.
I will post my new chore ideas and list when finished (hopefully this week). I would love your ideas thought.
Bahama Blessings
