Eclipse of moon

Right now, we are studying the Solar system in the chapter we are currently in. Someone shared on our curriculum yahoo group, that there would be an eclipse of the moon tonight- perfect!!!! Our church is celebrating it's 21st anniversary, so I ran out of church tonight and got the children while we looked at the eclipse.
People are funny...have you ever looked up at the sky for something and then people who don't even know you will start to look up to see what you are looking at? That's what happened tonight. We looked up and as people were leaving out of service, they wondered what we were looking at. Next thing I know, we have a little group and picture phones appear, along with more kids-whether they were homeschooled or not. Anyway, I did have my camera with me, but decided to wait until I got home because I desperately needed a tripod - I had to zoom in pretty far, the other pics looked blurred:
This was taken from church:
This one is on a tripod- see the difference?
Now on this next one- look really hard and you will see at least three stars- you might think it's dust from your computer screen, but they are really stars. One is right above the moon the other is about at a 2 o'clock location and the last one is at about 8 o'clock

I'm jealous. My camera doesn't have the sensitivity/zoom to take such good photos of the moon's surface. But, we did take pics of the different stages of the eclipse, which I put into a montage and uploaded.

You've got Great photos!!

We had a hard time seeing the eclipse because it was cloudy and snowy, but we did get a few glimpses.

Missy,

Those were great pictures! I tried to take some, but I didn't know where my husband put our tripod. I couldn't hold the camera still. Some of the pictures I took looked like the moon had three petal shapes around it's circumference, lol.

Your "blurred" picture looks better than my best picture. What kind of camera do you have? I watched the eclipse as well, with my husband and daughter. We saw all the stars and there are more than three in your pictures that I can see. We also saw a shooting star off to the left of the moon last night...

You had a much more clear sky that we did. It was extremely overcast here, so we sat out in the cold and watched the clouds cover the moon, then uncover the moon. We missed the full eclipse, but we did get to see the shadow of the earth moving off the moon from about a quarter moon till it was almost completely gone. The really heavy cloud cover rolled in just before we would have seen the entire moon. We too are studying astronomy right now (using Apologia Astronomy). The kids are loving it.

I just have to tell you that your kids are beautiful. I love visiting your blog, seeing their faces, and all of the creative things they've done. And I love the photo of the flower you posted as well. I know that you already have this, but since I enjoy your blog so much I'm giving you the Excellence Award, so now you'll have been awarded this twice! Thanks for all you share on your blog!

Blessings,
Missy

What kind of camera do you use?

I added you to my friends list - hope that's okay.
