• February 14, 2009 - Happy Valentines Day

Wives, I am asking you to share about your husbands. If you'd like to join me, there is a Mr. Linky at the bottom of this post.

Join me in celebrating your sweetheart. I just love ooshy gooshy feelings, don't you? I have plenty of reasons to have my own ooshy gooshy feelings, but I want to hear about all of yours too.

Last year, at Valentines Day, I had an infant and the worst cold (flu?) of the year. I was miserable. My poor husband got me a card. I didn't get him anything. And I didn't clean the house. Or put out little I love you notes all over. Or even clean our room and put out candles. The year before that was similar since Natalie had just had an appendicitis. So, ever since I've seen the Valentines decorations going up in the store, I've been thinking about Valentines day and how I wanted to make extra sure that I did SOMETHING. Men like romance too! Did you know that?

Jon and I went to an all weekend marriage conference one year and quite frankly (perhaps I'm being too frank), it didn't do much for us. Actually, it caused a lot of conflict. I think it just made both of us have too high of expectations of the other person.

The two best things that helped our marriage were the Love Language book by Gary Smalley and just having a strong homeschool support group around between homeschool blogger and just getting to know homeschoolers in our community.

But...my point was that in all the hours we sat there in the conference, through all the conversations we had, this is the one thing I really took home from the conference. Men like romance too. It just means something different to them. It means admiration and well it means you know what. You do know what don't you?! We won't talk about that...But, the second thing I learned...(didn't I say I only learned one thing...but this is the second half of the first thing) is that you can't wait for your husband to be romantic, you have to prepare a place for romance to happen. No more complaining about your spouse not being romantic!

So here are my top 14 things I love about my husband. What are your top 14 things you love about your husband?

I'd love to read them. Like I said I love ooshy gooshy feelings. If you want to share, add your name and your link to Mr. Linky. I'll keep this post up on top (sticky) until February 14 (Valentines Day).

14 Things I Love About My Husband

  1. He makes me laugh.
  2. Everything he does, he does with passion.
  3. That he loves to hug me.
  4. That he has eyes for me alone.
  5. His smile.
  6. How his heart breaks for others.
  7. His toughness, which he says is there so he can protect me.
  8. That he's always there ready to fight for our oneness in marriage.
  9. That he walks the land and prays.
  10. That he loves to hike.
  11. When he stands on top of logs and trims limbs with his chainsaw.
  12. His calm, relaxed voice.
  13. The way he drives.
  14. How deeply he loves our children.

Your Thoughts (6) :: Post A Thought! :: Permanent Link

February 5, 2009 - Untitled Comment I didn't add to your list--yet. Time is short, and I'd need to get my wording right. However, I could relate to a number of items in your post, even though I'm not the "ooshy gooshy" one.

Early in our marriage, we, too, went to a marriage retreat and I came back thinking it might have added troubles that we didn't have before we left! We came back arguing about a lot of things that happened when we were single--as if (!?!)

We have also been ministered to by the love languages. I've not read the book, but again, earlier in our marriage, our church held a seminar entitled, "How to Get Everything You Want from the One You Want It From" or something like that. The title was intended to catch couples' attention, and we bit with little hesitation. When we got there, the speaker went through the 5 love languages with all attendees, and it changed our marriage totally, from my perspective. My love language is acts of service, so if I added to your list, I'd have items like, 15) I love the way my husband washes dishes and/or clothes when I'm tired or running behind, and 16) I love him buying me a cup of coffee in the mornings when he's out early (but not working). Such a romantic, huh? (smile)

Thanks for stopping by on yesterday.

February 5, 2009 - Great Idea I love this idea. I rarely tell my husband all the wonderful things he is to me. Thank you!

February 8, 2009 - Love it, Love it, Love it! What a cool idea!

February 11, 2009 - Untitled Comment Hi Cathy! What a great idea but I have to admit that like Belinda I too am not ooshy gooshy :-). My husband is definitely the romantic and sentimental one in our marriage. Probably good as we tend to balance each other in that area. I'll try and post my list tonite and then sign up on the Mr. Linky...you're so clever to get all that up there.
Oh and I have to say also I looove the picture of your daughter where she's grossing out at what the chickens are eating! Just too funny!
Blessings, Julie

February 11, 2009 - Untitled Comment Thank you for this great idea. BTW my hubby's name is Jon as well.

February 13, 2009 - Untitled Comment #8 is great. It seems such a rare thing in Christian marriages today, as if so many have forgotten one of the earliest commands of the Bible.
