• April 10, 2009 - Socialism

A disturbing trend my husband and I were reading about last night is that according to a recent Rasmussen poll - just 53% of Americans believed that capitalism was better than socialism. Among the young, the trend was even more striking. Google it if you are interested.

Along those line, my husband sent this one to me and I thought it was particularly good, so I'm sharing it with you.

Socialism Always Fails…

An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single
student, but had once failed an entire class.

The class (students) insisted that socialism worked since no one would
be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism."

"All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so
no one will fail and no one will receive an A."

After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The
students who had studied hard were upset while the students who had
studied very little were happy.

But, as the second test rolled around, the students who had studied
little studied even less and the ones who had studied hard decided that since they couldn't make an A, they also studied less. The second Test average was a D.

No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around the average grade was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling, all
resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else.

To their great surprise all failed.

The professor told them that socialism would ultimately fail.

The harder people try to succeed the greater their reward (capitalism)
but when a government takes all the reward away (socialism) no one will try or succeed.

I heard about that recent poll on the radio yesterday. Sad.

April 11, 2009 - Untitled Comment This was a great story to contrast socialism and capitalism. What a brutal reality that at the end no one dares to achieve because it gets them nowhere. How very sad.

April 11, 2009 - Socialism Keep in mind I bet a lot of the young poeple who were polled probably do not even know what socialism is. Just like during the elections when they would ask people questions about our leaders and their candidates positions on this or that most of them could not tell you. Socialism souns nice and it makes people feel all good inside to say they believe in it but have probably not thought it through, like the classroom in your example. Thanks for a good read.

April 17, 2009 - Untitled Comment Thank you for sharing that story. I hadn't heard this particular story before and it describes socialism in a very clear way.
If you don't mind I would like to link to this post from my blog.
