• June 5, 2009 - What I've Been Up To - My Week Abbreviated

Posted By Cathy in My Week

Hi Everyone! I had a good week. We did homeschool four out of five days. Well Daddy did most of the fourth, so I could put in some time at our business. That fifth day, which was actually Thursday, if you follow me, we cleaned. Doesn't sound very fun, does it. But, we REALLY needed to do it. The weather changed this week and got rainy (well mostly sprinkly) and even a little stormy (thunderstorms), so that was fun. My husband was praying for rain so he could plant his field.

Things are up in the garden. I hope to get time to weed in the garden and in the flower beds. I never seem to get things weeded and amended in time to plant flowers. I hope to this year. Besides the weeds, our ground is like almost straight clay. It's awful. I mean you throw compost in it and it still forms clods and the thing that seems to like to grow in it best is crab grass. Crab grass loves clay! Well, I'm going to keep trying to amend it. But...my husband isn't as motivated when it comes to flower beds as he is when it comes to something that produces a tangible result (like a garden). So the flower beds are up to me to turn and amend.

You may notice when I show you pictures of my flowers, I usually show an individual plant (that somehow I've nursed to life). The exception would be my strip of shade plants. The previous owners of this place amended that soil quite well. I think because they had Hostas in there and they require composty soil. Ahhhhh. My house is the same. One my asked me if I was very organized. No, I am not very organized. What I am is a tremendous thinker...extremely analytical. So you get to hear all about the projects I get started here At Home On Basketflat. I have to try and reign myself in though and not do everything, because as Charlotte Mason said is (loosely paraphrased) that it is not the things we do that tire out our brain, but it is the things we leave undone.

Anyhow, it is Natalie's birthday this weekend and I may not get to gardening, but it would be nice if I could spend some time gardening as the weather is supposed to be nice and cool.

Here is something I want to share with you - a polkadot collage I made.

June 6, 2009 - Untitled Comment Hi Cathy-I love your polka dot collage! I know what you mean about how some things get done or not done depending on where else your energy is going. Also, starting things..and having to force myself to keep going until it's finished-you know, like, several months later. LOL Holly

June 6, 2009 - Pictures Your pictures are adorable. I like the way you designed them with the polka dots. That is so cute!

Blessings,
Penny

June 6, 2009 - In answer to your questions... I think that the economy isn't hurting our clinic. The doctor I serve is triple booked. Unfortunately the other two clinics he owns aren't doing as well. I think he feels the need to make more money at our clinic to support the other two... I am not sure why he thinks I am a liability. It doesn't make sense to me. In order to absorb my patients he must see more than 3 patients every 15 minutes... more than one every 5 minutes... because that is what he already does. I think it may be that he sees that he can no longer support the "temporary" doctor who is working at our clinic (for at least a year now I believe). I'm sure he pays him 3 times what he pays me... What he would really like is for me to work full-time, but I just can't do that...

As for the books, I don't let them read them now because they all tell a broader story when read in order, and my vocabulary lessons and discussion questions need to be done when the book is read. Know what I mean? I have let them read ahead in the past when our curriculum books weren't integrated, but they are now.

I hope you are having a good weekend.

Carol

June 6, 2009 - Untitled Comment You are doing sooooooo good ! I am happy to hear your dh is helping out by not asking for goodies.

I hope you know I want to keep encouraging you along the way. I have encluded my WW on my Weekly Wrap Up. I seem to only have so much time and have to spend it wisely.
