Here is a quote from Charlotte Mason from today that I thought particularly noteworthy:
"what if the devitalisation we notice in so many of our young people, keen about games but dead to things of the mind, is due to the processes carried on in our schools, to our plausible and pleasant ways of picturing, eliciting, demonstrating, illustrating, summarising, doing all those things for children which they are born with the potency to do for themselves?"

Mmmm-hmmm! We under-value and under-appreciate the capacity that children have for doing what we would call "incredible" things! Just look at the records of what kids used to do and to study in the 1800s, or look at the abilities of, say, our Founding Fathers when they were 12 years old...it'll knock your socks off.
Say, I FINALLY got part 4 of "I Wish I Could Go To A Farm" posted...took me way too long, but I know why, looking back on all that's happened in the last couple months! Anyway, if you want to pick up the story, it's there!
God Bless you, Cathy!

Oh, Cathy, this quote is perfect! I am re-immersing myself in Miss Mason's writings, so your quote stirred up quite a bit that is lying on the surface waiting to be digested and absorbed. As Miss Mason said, we should not 'spoon feed' our children, we should let them make the connections, and yet I fear the institutionalized school system does not, sadly, allow children to think freely and make those vital connections.
*sigh* What a lovely post to read and chew on whilst I de-clutter and pack. Thank you, dear lady!
Have a lovely day!
