I have long wanted to incorporate artist studies into our curriculum in a historical way. Here is a neat timeline which breaks down artists by a timeline. This handy reference should be a help to me.

We finished with the animal kingdom book and are onto the human body book. The first assignment is to draw self-portraits. Here are my girls' self portraits. The first one is Natalie's (DD7) and the second one is Rachel's (DD5). Rachel wanted her hair to be a little darker than the brown pen and was bothered that adding the black on top of the brown made her hair look black - just so you know that she knows her hair isn't really black.

I love doing art with my kids. I don't know why. I'm totally not an artist myself. But, I just love doing art with kids.

Anyhow...I just found a couple of new websites I am excited about that have to do with kids and art. And, I am NOT easily impressed when it comes to art projects for kids. But, these look like fun projects to do with my girls. The projects don't look cookie cutter either. They will be able to use their own imaginations to come up with their own finished product with these projects. So, here are the sites. The Comedian

My Hungry Girl (age 4) has always had quite the sense of humor. She definitely has comedic timing - which is something none of the rest of us have, so I'm not sure how she got that way.

Anyhow, here is a picture she drew. I am sharing it not so much to show you how well she can draw, but to share with you the creativity she uses to come up with the subject matter, as well as to share the emotion she adds to her pictures.

Well, I got confused about what the assignment was for Sketch Tuesday. The sketch was supposed to be a key, but I told Art Girl to sketch something out her window. Here is her sketch. She did a good job I think.

Here is Art Girl's sketch for Sketch Tuesday's "Something That Swims". I believe this is a sketch of a photo of a Barracuda. Kind of looks scary, huh? Jon (my dh) said it looked modern.

Art From Today

My kids are so creative. I am amazed at the ideas they come up with on their own. They have never read a craft book (well pretty much). They have never had an art class (so far). I give them lots of art supplies, so much so that I'm sure my husband must think I am obsessed with creativity or the arts sometimes. It's not that we neglect other areas. We do our math, our reading, our writing, our science, and sometimes even our history (we'll catch up on that). But we have lots of art supplies, we listen to music, and Art Girl plays the violin. They enjoy it. So far, I think it's been a blessing in their lives and mine - even on the days when they make a little too much mess and it inconveniences me.

Here are some pictures of some of what they did today. These projects they did on their own, and they cleaned up when they were done.

Art Girl decorated one of our napkins by filling in the raised areas with pen. I think it looks lovely. A great and super easy craft idea to keep kids busy.
