March 27, 2009 - The Weather
This is our forcast for the next bit. This is a very typical forcast around here in the Spring (and Fall and Winter for that matter).
I so hope they are wrong. We've been getting back into homeschooling here the last few days. But, next week Mariah will join us and this is her Spring break. I was hoping for sme sunny (or non-rainy) weather so she could spend lots of time outdoors. Well, it will be alright, I just hope for some nice weather for her sake.

December 23, 2008 - More Snow Pictures
Here are a few more snow pictures. These were from yesterday. This is what I refer to as "in town". We probably have an accumulation of about 12-14 inches total. In town 6-8 inches. And, for around here it was bizarre - going to Target and having packed snow - no dry (or wet) pavement. The snow was before Christmas at that!

This is a tree. I thought it looked cool.
This is the snow at the business park where we have our business. I thought the snow was a really cool. Color. Notice the bluish tint. It really did look like that.

December 21, 2008 - More About The Snow
We played more in the snow today.
We were very confused by the weather forcast last night, which had a forcast of 21 degrees for a high and possible rain and snow for last night and today. We did get a little freezing rain, just enough to give us an 1/8 of an inch of crusty ice in between the layers of snow. Yesterday and today were pretty treacherous even in town. Here, we have about a foot.
So, I still haven't made it to do Christmas shopping. My plan didn't work with that. Luckily, if push comes to shove, I have enough of the kid's Christmas shopping done to make due. And, my husband would be very forgiving. They are, after all, forcasting snow through Christmas.
Here are some pictures from today. Enjoy.

Mariah & Rachel sledding. I love how Rachel leans back into Mariah. I especially love it because Rachel is such a stubborn, independent one that doesn't much show that kind of emotion normally.

December 19, 2008 - Show And Tell SNOW
Show And Tell SNOW
I am participating in Mary's Show N Tell Friday. For more Show N Tell's visit Mary's blog.
If you have read further down in my blog, you would know that we have either had or been threatened with snow for about five days. The first day we were suppose to get snow, we got only a half an inch here, none really in town. Then there was a break (except for the cold weather) after that day and I got out of the house. Then, on Wednesday (two days ago), it snowed three inches. This wasn't a lot, but it is enough to cause problems on our crazy road. The next day we got an inch, but it seemed to warm up and was definitely warmer than the weather forcasts. Today, I'm not sure, I think we got another inch or two and it's below freezing. This means I can't leave the house without my DH.
But, I still have some shopping to do, so this is what he is going to do for me. He's going to take the whole family out to town tomorrow in the 4x4 truck. He reminds me 4x4's, even chained don't really do better stopping or going down steep hills. Yet, lucky for us we have two ways out of here. One crazy one lane road uphill and one crazy one lane road downhill. So, if he's leaving he goes one way, if he's coming home he goes another way. Once we get in town he'll take the older kids to work with him and give them a video to watch on someone's computer. I'll go out shopping. Perfect.
Well, here are some pictures of the snow from today and yesterday.

I think that's a pretty contrast of colors, don't you?

October 21, 2008 - How I Hunker Down
This week's Homeschool Blogger Friend School Assignment has to do with how we as homeschool moms hunker down for the cooler weather.
Well, the first thing I must show you is what I affectionately call "Basket Flat Rain". This picture does not do our rain justice...it's hard to get a good picture of rain. Sometimes the rain storms are gorgeous (I wish I could capture them the way I see them), but other times the rain gets to be a bit much. I can't tell you how much we get right where we are, but I know the official annual rainfall for the nearest town is 80 inches and I wouldn't be suprised if right where we are we get a little more than that. That's twice as much as Seattle. I'm originally from the Seattle area and I thought it rained a lot there! I guess it rains the same frequency here, it just rains more. We live up a curvy road and then right after our place, there are a bunch of hills leading up to some footfills (small mountains). So often I go just a mile down the road and the rain is much more mild.
Anyhow, one of the things I do to hunker down in the fall, winter, and usually spring, is I WATCH BIRDS. I sit on my couch and look out my living room window and watch the birds feed at our feeders. I find it quite entertaining. And, I don't have to set foot outside in the rain to see wildlife. Here is a picture. Again, I wish I had a better one to show you. But, I haven't taken any yet this year. This is the best rainy season picture I had of one of the birds.
How I Had A Blissful Fall LAST YEAR
Another thing I really enjoyed doing last year during this time of year was having a new baby. I really looked on the rainy season with more a sense of overwhelming joy. I love having a new baby. I don't get a lot done, but it really cheered me up last year. But, this is not in the realm of possibility this year, however. My little one is now almost a year. She still brings me joy.

Something I like to drink in the cold season, that I don't drink when it's warm, is warm apple cider. Yumm. Yumm. I love to sit on the couch, reading a book, watching my birds, covered with a blanket, drinking some warm apple cider. We got so many apples this year it would be great to make cider out of them. Alas, we don't have a press. So, I will probably buy one of those jugs of apple juice (I call it cider - not the clear kind) from the store.
As for my verse, I offer you a verse from Psalm 37. Actually, the whole Psalm is excellent, please do read it. A friend gave me this Psalm to read in this last week and it really ministered to me.
Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
