Faithful Friend
Dec. 31, 2007 - Happy New Year
Happy New Year!
I am very thankful for the much needed time off from daily schedules and routines but I am so glad to get back in the swing of things here in our little home. I am very UNorganized by nature but have learned over the past few years that my life runs much more smoothly if I strive to be organized and consistent. LOL!
For example: Today I received news that my friend whose baby was born premature and in ICU wasn't doing well. Of course I wanted to visit her at the hospital and began to rush around getting myself ready. I was very tempted to leave the dirty dishes in the sink and clean dishes in the dishwasher but it took me only a few minutes to realize I would much rather come home to a nice clean kitchen! This didn't take long at all and saved me the guilt of having a messy kitchen. Now, in the past I would not only have left dirty dishes but clothes strewn everywhere, unmade beds, etc. Yeah, can you believe it?!?
We decided to start school today and had a very good day.
Continued using all the same curriculum and even added a few goodies.
Abeka Literature 7th grade
First Aid for YOUths
Poetry from The Harp and Laurel Wreath
Bible from Bob Jones Workbook Level A
Also covered history, math, and reading today~
I enjoyed our devotions so much today.
Theme: JOY
Scripture: Matthew 5:1-16 (The Beatitudes)
Jesus explains to his disciples how a person can experience joy. Jesus presented eight qualities or actions that would make a person happy. He began each one by saying "blessed," which means happy or joyful.
The first four have to do with our relationship to God.
1)poor in spirit
2)one who mourns
3)meek
4)one who hungers and thirsts after righteousness
The second four have to do with our relationship with others.
5)show mercy
6)be pure in heart
7)be a peacemaker
8)accept persecution
To be the kind of person Jesus describes in this passage is to bring honor and glory to God!!
Another reason is that it influences others for the Lord. The Lord used two illustrations to show how we can be an influence to others.
First, we are to be like SALT in the world. Salt adds flavor to food. Knowing God gives flavor or purpose to life. We have purpose in our life when we know the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior! We bring the message of salt to the lives of others.
The second illustration Christ used was LIGHT. The world is a dark place spiritually. It is up to Christians to to light the way to the Lord and His salvation.
Joy does not comes from how you look, what kind of house you live in, or how many friends you have. It comes from having a right relationship to God through Christ. Once we become a believer and accept Christ we will begin to turn our attention to others and less to ourselves. Meeting the needs of others and helping those in need. That is what makes the Christian JOYFUL!!

I appreciate you sharing The Word today. I'm looking for some new ideas to do in our Bible time for the upcoming year.
