Jan. 14, 2008 - Beginning Our Week

Beginning our new week of school with a new unit, titled, Growing Tensions, using the book, A Gathering of Days, by Joan W. Blos.

This is a picture of our stack of books we will be using for this unit. Some of these we will select portions to read as there will not possibly be enough time to read each one in it's entirety.
Some of the topics we will cover: slavery, Eli Whitney, American Inventor, Underground Railroad, Native Americans, and more.

The weather is cold again, burrrr! Snow flakes were falling briefly today as I carried groceries into the house. I really enjoy winter during winter, don't you? I don't care much for 70 deg. days in January! LOL!
Perfect day to snuggle under a blanket and have a nice hot cup of tea or cocoa huh? Dream on, girl! There is still laundry to do and dinner to prepare! Well, at least I did have my cup of raspberry tea while I was writing this post.

Wishing for snow,
Tina

Those titles look great!! We are having a chilly spell too. I stepped outside this afternoon and was welcomed by a cold breeze. We have experienced temps. in the 60s this past week. Personally I enjoyed that so much more. ;-) We are expecting 3 inches tonight. :-(

~Blessings to you this week,
Tammy
P.S. Count me on the hot cocoa as long as there is whip cream!

Your new unit study sounds exciting! We are about to wind up a study of Africa, and head to Europe. :0) I can't wait, especially since I learn right along with my sweet students!
Snow is pretty, but not for me. My kids do love it, although we never get it much here in GA. I'll take 70 degree weather year round. I'm very cold natured!
Blessings!

I will get my daughter to post pictures of the horses and pups for me. I can never get it to work.
So your daughter wants a horse too, huh? They are fun to mess around with, but a lot of work. Fortunately, my girls are the ones who go out and feed them every day. I usually do not have to mess with them very much, except recently when the smaller one hurt his leg. (vet bill $286 - right before Christmas!!!) I was the one who had to change the bandages, apply medication, etc. Getting at the back leg of a horse isn't exactly fun for somene who is practically scared of the horse in the first place.
I am hoping to get the girls involved in 4H. There is a local homeschool 4H group with a horse club. I figure if they are going to have these horses, they might as well learn all they can about them, and ride them in shows! :0)
Blessings!
