Frogs (Life Science)

2/11/2009  My frog embryos came in the mail today.  I put them in the aquarium and I can see the sac around each one of the eggs even though it is clear.
2/12/2009  Today I can see that the eggs are not round anymore it looks like some of them are growing tails.
2/13/2009  They are growing tails now and some of them are even wiggling their tails.
2/14/2009  There are 2 tadpoles swimming around today and I put a few pieces of food in the tank for them.
2/15/2009  There are six healthy tadploles starting to swim around the tank.  I had to remove a dead tadpole and three of the eggs that did not hatch.
2/16/2009  All six of the tadpoles are swimming all over the tank now.  I took out the old food and replaced it with fresh food.
2/17/2009  I can tell the bodies are getting bigger now.  When ever I move the tank a little they all take off swimming and they swim so fast.
2/18/2009  I cleaned the tank today and put new food in for the tadpoles.  One of them had died.  Now there are five tadpoles.
2/19/2009  The tadpoles are getting fatter.  They swim really fast around the tank.
2/20/2009  I can tell every morning when I get up that they have grown.  This is so amazing.
2/23/2009  The tadpoles just keep getting fatter and fatter.  I can see that they will be turning into froglets soon.
2/25/2009  Well now I know that the tadpoles are not almost ready to turn to froglets.  It says it takes up to 3 months for the whole process to happen.
3/5/2009  It has been 8 days since I have written anything about the tadpoles.  Wow! They have grown to be 6 cm.

Caterpillars (Life Science)

1/30/2009  My caterpillars came today.  They are so small only about 1/8 of an inch long. there are 5 in each jar.
1/31/2009  I cant believe I can tell they have grown overnight.
2/1/2009  Some of the caterpillars have made a little nest of silk.
2/2/2009  Today I can see fuzz or hair growing on the caterpillars they are about 1/2 inch long.  they are growing fast.
2/3/2009  The biggest caterpillar is 3/4 of an inch long.  They are getting very fuzzy.  Two of them have white spots now.
2/4/2009  The caterpillars are 2 cm long now and 1/2 cm wide.  There is a lot of silk in the jars too.
2/5/2009  Today I noticed that one of the caterpillars has white hair, all the rest have black.  The longest one is now 2 1/2 cm.
2/8/2009  We were busy Friday and Saturday and forgot to look at the caterpillars.  When we looked at them this morning they had grown 1 cm.  The food in the bottom was all torn up and big chunks eaten out of it.
2/9/2009  This morning there were 2 hanging from the top of the jars.  They are all about 4 cm long now.  When we looked tonight there was one already starting into the chrysalis stage.
2/10/2009  WOW!!  Overnight 7 of the caterpillars turned into chrysalides.  This is so exciting!
2/11/2009  There are three caterpillars left that have climbed to the top and we are waiting for them to turn to chrysalides.
2/12/2009  All of the caterpillars have turned into chrysalides and we have moved them to their butterfly pavilion. I can't wait to see the butterflies.
2/17/2009  I haven't been writing anything about the chrysalides because they still look the same.  I'm hoping they will start coming out soon.
2/18/2009  Today I could see cracks in some of the chrysalides.
2/19/2009  I woke up this morning and I was so excited there were two butterflies that had come out of their chrysalides overnight!  This is so cool!  I think everyone should get a butterfly kit and see this.
2/20/2009   Today three more of the butterflies came out.  Now there are 5 butterflies flying around.
2/21/2009  Last night another butterfly came out.  Today we have been watching the last two chrysalides closely so we can see one come out.  Right after we checked on the chrysalides one of them came out while we were not looking.  My mom said she was going to watch the last one until it came out.  She sat and read and watched for an hour and a half until it started to come out and she called to me and we watched it come out.  IT WAS AWESOME!
2/24/2009  One of the butterflies has died.  It was one that had a bent wing from not coming out of its chrysalis all the way before it's wing dried.
2/25/2009  I have been feeding the buterflies with the sugar water and they are flying all over inside their home.  I can't release them because it is not warm enough outside at night for them to live.  They only live for about 2 to 4 weeks so I will probably have to keep them untill they die.
3/5/2009  There is not much to say any more about the butterflies except I am feeding them sugar water and fresh oranges.

My Sensory Dome (Life Science)

Day 1:   I planted my sensory dome garden today.

Day 2:  I watered my garden but I don't see any change yet.

Day 3:  I can see a few seeds sprouting in the herb section.

Day 4:  There are seeds sprouting in both the herb and polka dot sections.

Day 5:  The herbs are about 1/4 inch tall and the polka dot plants are about 1/8 inch tall.  I can see seeds sprouting in the eucalyptus part.

Day 6:  The herbs are growing really tall now about 1 inch and some are about 2 inches the polka dot plants are about 1 inch tall too.

Day 7:  I just found an aloe leaf coming through the rocks today.

Day 8:  There is a new aloe shoot coming through the rocks.  The herb plants are growing tall and one of them is 2 1/2 inches tall.  There is nothing growing in the cabbage palm section yet.

Day 9:  Wow! Today I can see 7 aloe plants coming through the rocks.  The eucalyptus and cabbage palm are taking a long time to grow.  I can see only three small eucalyptus plants coming up.

Day 10:  I didn't see any change today.

Day 11:  The aloe plants are really growing up and the polka dot plant too.

Day 12  I still can't see any of the cabbage palm sprouting yet.  The rest are growing good.

Day 13:  The plants have slowed down their growing.  I can't see any thing in the cabbage palm section.  I don't think anything is going to grow there.

Day 14:  I can see spots on the polka dot plants now.

Day: 15  The plants are getting taller but still not much growth in the eucalyptus plants.

Day: 16  I haven't been writing everyday about my plants because the tadpoles and butterflies are more exciting.  You can see changes in them everyday but you can't see changes in the plants everyday.  The herbs have grown a little and the aloe is getting taller.
Day ?:   I left my sensory dome outside the back door to get some sun and my dad stepped out the back door and right on top of my plant.  There is not much plant left now.
