I OVERBOUGHT ON THE HOTDOG BUNS FOR OUR FOURTH OF JULY GATHERING! WHAT'S A FRUGAL MOM .. WITH TOO MUCH TIME ON HER HANDS SUPPOSE TO DO? I'VE ALREADY PROCESSED ENOUGH BREAD CRUMBS AND I DIDN'T WANT TO BREAK UP PERFECTLY GOOD BUNS AND FEED THEM TO THE BIRDS... SO I MADE HOMEMADE CROUTONS! BELIEVE ME WHEN I TELL YOU...YOU WON'T FOR ONE SECOND, REGRET MAKING THESE! YOUR KITCHEN WILL SMELL LUSCIOUS- LIKE AN ITALIAN BAKERY- ONLY BETTER! HERE'S HOW I DID IT..... CUBE HOTDOG BUNS (OR ANY LEFTOVER BREAD), NEXT, TAKE YOUR FLIP FLOPS OFF AND GO BAREFOOT (THINKING OF TASHA TUDOR THE WHOLE ENTIRE TIME) AS YOU GATHER BUNCHES OF YOUR FAVORITE FRESH HERBS.. I CUT: THYME, SAGE, PARSLEY, BASIL, GARLIC-CHIVES, DILL AND OREGANO. THEN, WASH AND PAT THEM DRY... THROW THEM IN A FOOD PROCESSOR OR BLENDER... EYEBALL ENOUGH OLIVE OIL AND MELTED BUTTER TO COAT THE ENTIRE BOWL OF CUBED BREAD. MIX THE OILS AND HERBS IN THE FOOD PROCESSER.... THEN TAKE YOUR FAVORITE WOODEN SPOON (OR ANY SPOON) AND TOSS THE LIQUID OVER THE BREAD CUBES..COATING AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! TAKE A PALM FULL OF SEA SALT AND TOSS OVER THE CUBES. BAKE *350 FOR 20 TO 25 MIN.
I STORED THEM IN THESE HANDY-DANDY LITTLE SNACK BAGS... BOTH, BIG B AND TOMMIE LOVED THEM. I THINK I SAW BRAD'S SOCKS ROLL UP AND DOWN! I LOVED THEM, AS WELL. TRUTH BE KNOWN, I COULD OF SNATCHED A BOWLFUL...BUT, I REFRAINED! BY THE WAY... THIS RECIPE MADE MORE THEN THE BAGGIES I'VE SHOWN YOU BELOW... I USED 16 HOTDOG BUNS.
