I used to say that homeschooling was our lifestyle but now I say our lifestyle is our homeschool!

Lifestyle Homeschool is about discipling our children; about character training, about everyday life giving learning opportunities, about Bible study and practical skills. Your lifestyle will provide the experiences that will give your children a rich education.

Aug. 17, 2009 - Family Time out on a River Cruise

Last year Peter was given a voucher, as a thank you gift,  to take the family on a river cruise.  The cruise only operates in the Dry Season (our winter) so we decided to wait till the end of the season when the weather was a little warmer.  It was a lovely 34C!  We took the sunset cruise, which left at 4.00pm, cruised the river, and then "parked" (do boats park?) to watch the sunset and have a BBQ dinner.  We were able to find a nice balance between mixing with the tourists onboard and being a family.  Some of the tourists initially thought it weird for locals to be doing the touristy thing - but hey, look at the view - why wouldn't you join in!

Ord River - incredible!

Daniel couldn't help himself - he had to give it a go.
They look rather relaxed don't they!

We saw lots of birdlife but the kids love coming around the bend in the river
and seeing trees full of bats.

Right at the end of the cruise we went croc spotting.
The captain jumped overboard and grabbed this one, plucking it straight up for us to see.
Though it has a sharp set of teeth it was only a freshie.
Fresh water crocodiles are not feared like the salt water crocs we see every so often.

We had a fantastic afternoon and I reckon we should do a cruise at least once a year -
regardless of a gift voucher or not!

Aug. 20, 2009 - So pretty!

Posted by IllinoisLoriH
Oh, it just looks so pretty where you were on that river! I'm here in the Chicago suburbs...this place is not exactly known for its "natural beauty!"

I love the little croc... :-)

Thanks for stopping by my blog the other day...I have the next installment of "I Wish I Could Go To A Farm" posted, if you'd like to continue the tale!

God Bless,

A place to share the things that happen in my family. The longer I homeschool the quicker I realise that these are not just everyday family happenings - they are the experiences that are educating my children.

Be a Deliberate Parent
We need to know where we want to take our family, and how we are going to get there. We need to be very deliberate in our training of our children.

Homemaking
In amongst the parenting, the training, the homeschooling I must remember that I am also a homemaker.
