Awana Games

Hey Guys, you may remember me talking about AWANA games but I don't remember if I told you about them or not so I'll explain now.

The Awana Games are when Awana churches select players for their team and the churches compete in games. Games like Tug - O - War, Relay races, six lap races, and tossing the bean bag.

Any way I was on the Denton Bible Church team; and the Denton Bible Boys team had won the year before and was the defending champions. I probably have told you about this year being my first year in Awana and so this was my first year in the Awana Games.

I didn't think that we had a chance in winning the games because in practice only a few of our guys actually played any attention to what our coach said when explaining the rules and stuff. I was one of the players who actually listened and was in a lot of the games.

The first game that I played both the boys and the girls’ team won all three heats. The bean bag toss, whenever there is one guy in the middle and in the first two rounds five guys on the outside (The second heat there are all the team on the outside except for the guy in the middle and one other guy). The guy in the middle tossed the bean bag to the first person on the out side and that first person tosses it back and then the guy in the middle tosses to the second guy on the outside and that guy passes it back and so on and so on until the last guy tosses the bean bag back to the guy in the middle and the guy in the middle catches the bean bag and runs to the outside around the pin and in to the other pin on the inside and then the person who get's their pin first wins.

The second game I was in was the Bean Bag Grab. That game is the judges put bean bags in the middle and the teams run in to the middle one player from each team at a time and try to get as many bean bags as possible and we did awful.

You can see that I was a big supporter

The next game I played in was the marathon relay race. Three guys run on each team, each one runs two laps, I was really looking forward to it 'cause sprinting was one of my greatest abilities. First guy Daniel Davenport, runs great did a great job. Second guy me ; I pass two guys and did a great job. Last guy, Anchor man, James Jenkins. Did great on his first lap, second lap one guy was in his way from a different team. Instead of waiting for him to pass the pin that was in his way, James cut the pin and GOT US DISQUALIFIED FOR THAT GAME!!!!!!!!!

I REALLY WANTED TO WIN. James kept on going not knowing he had been disqualified and won BUT HE HAD BEEN DISQUALIFIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All right I wasn't in the next race but I'm going to tell you about it any way. The next race was the six lap marathon; one guy runs six laps no hand offs. I can't run that long with out running out of steam. Anthony Milbitz is our fastest guy and I'd say our most enduring. The race starts, Anthony and one other guy excel greatly. Anthony passes two guys and that other guy is still left one little section ahead. There is a tag rule that if you tag a player or pass them then they're out, they are disqualified. Anthony passes two guys and then tags that other guy. Anthony and ummm... let's see; actually ANTHONY WAS THE ONLY ONE LEFT THAT HADN'T BEEN DISQUALIFIED. Anthony finished in first (DUH) and no one else finished the race!!!!!! Our team mobbed Anthony and mostly because of that win... well, I'll tell you later.

The next thing that I was in was TUG - O - WAR. Our big tug wasn't there that day and so another tug had to take his place. I was the anchor. My coaches theory was don't yank or you'll wear out too quick and loose, let the other team yank and you just hold you're ground. So that's what we did and, we spanked their buts.
We're in the yellow.

In the end we finished with seventy one points and WON!!!! And the girls’ team finished with seventy one points and WON!!!! Denton Bible church boys had its second consecutive winning year and were still defending champs. OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm on the left holding the poster. James is in the middle holding the poster. Anthony is on the right holding the poster. Daniel Davenport is just on the right of Anthony looking back, (Not at the camera). Daniel Hargrove my friend, is on the floor on the left side wearing the blue sweats. Our coach is Mr. Waring the tall guy on the left of me.
