Working Out the Quinques

Mar. 23, 2007

Did you hear that South Carolina is poised to pass a law requiring women seeking an abortion to view ultrasound images of their "fetuses?"  Other states make the images available, but SC will be the first state to require women to view them before undergoing the "procedure."  I may have to move there.

In other news,  Abbie has recently become pretty sensitive to beef from all sources.  It started out with getting sick if she ate a fast-food hamburger.  Then it extended to the beef in any of Taco Bell's offerings, and now even fresh beef I cook at home is bothering her.  I don't really know what to think of this.  Any ideas?  I've never heard of this happening to someone who has eaten beef for years with no problems.

And finally, we are really enjoying this summer-like weather, but know it won't last.  I'm going to try to plant some spinach tomorrow, then the rains will come and we'll be back to watching our roof leak.  *sigh*

Be thankful ~

Mar. 24, 2007 - I can't eat beef anymore

I grew up eating beef. My grandparents had a beef cattle farm, so we had free beef, just to give you an idea of how much beef I ate growing up. Now, beef just makes me ill. I still eat it sometimes because I like it so much. But, maybe only once a month. I don't know why it happened, but it did. By the way, I can still eat poultry, pork, seafood, etc. Just not beef.

I've heard of people never being allergic to some product and suddenly developing an allergy to it, or having an allergy to something for years and then it goes away. I don't know if it's true, but just one of those things I've heard others talk about before.

Also reading your post on the sonogram images for women seeking abortions made me think of a news story I was the other day. A company (don't remember which one but not any well knowns) has started designing e-cards for women that have just had an abortion. What on earth do you say to a woman who has just done that? I know several that have done it and all of them have trouble with guilt, and what if? and was it a boy or a girl, blue eyes or brown? he/she would have been ?? years old this year.

Mar. 28, 2007 - Beef

While I don't know the cause, I am actually allergic to bananas. Weird. I LOVE bananas and have always loved them. But as I've gotten older, they slowly started to irritate my throat, then it got to where it would make my whole mouth itch, and now it makes the whole bottom half of my face and my entire neck red and itchy (including my throat)-- talk about misery. There were time in the past where I'd eat one anyway (because I like them that much), but now it just scares me! Now the smell of very ripe bananas almost makes me itch.

Hmmm... One of the nurses when I had my last child mentioned that I could be allergic to latex as well. I'm not, but they said that someone who's allergic to bananas is usually allergic to latex as well so they weren't going to take any chances. I thought that was interesting. I wonder if there's a related link to beef and other products??? Maybe it's worth loking into.
