Working Out the Quinques

How's a Mother to Know?

Last night after visitation and before church, the kids were in the gym playing basketball. Elijah tried to catch a ball that ricocheted off the hoop and heard his finger snap - sorta creepy-like. Today it is swollen and bruised and he can't bend it. So do I get it x-rayed or just blow it off? If it's broken, won't they just put a splint on it and couldn't I just go to the drugstore and buy one myself? On the other hand, what if it's not broken, but there's ligament damage that needs to be fixed? Not one to run to the doctor for every snotty nose, I hesitate, but what if I'm wrong?

And now, back to our regularly scheduled dog beating (Pete's in the trash again). . .
Be thankful ~

If he can't move them, I'd take him in. Sometimes it's worth the money and trouble to have peace of mind...if not, you'll what-if all week, won't you?

And if things come back okay, don't feel silly for taking him in. Just be thankful that it wasn't as traumatic as it could've been!

But I do have friends who would just splint it themselves. Lots of experience in that dept, I guess.

How is the swelling/bruising today? Can he move his fingers?

Update: This morning he got up and the swelling was a little less, and he had a little movement, so we didn't take him. He didn't think we needed to either, so that made it easier to make that decision. We'll see what it's like Monday.

I hope his finger is better today. That is always a tough call. Being a parent is never easy!
