Sunday, August 19, 2007 - The Beach

Today we went to Revere Beach. It was too cold to go in the water but we had fun collecting shells and playing in the sand. We had pizza for lunch and ice cream after that. It was really a fun day. I took lots of pictures which I put in the previous post and I also did a few short videos.

Sunday, August 19, 2007 - A Great Day

Yesterday we had such a nice day. Jorge had to work in the morning so Lorena (our au pair) and I took Mari and Genesis for a walk to the library which is exactly 1 mile from our house. Gabby and Noah stayed at home with Caroline (my little sister). Gabby didn't want to go because she doesn't like to walk.

The weather was beautiful and we saw ducks near a little stream that we crossed. There was a dead raccoon in the middle of the street. That turned into a learning experience for Mari about death. She was worried that the raccoon might miss its family but I explained that since it was dead it couldn't feel anything anymore.

When we got to the library I returned some books that were seriously overdue and I found out that I still owe a few more and I owe the library about $100. That's annoying. I need to get better at returning things on time.

The library trip was fun and I was a little tired when I got home but Jorge wanted to take the kids for a walk along the Charles river. I thought that was a nice idea so I asked Lorena and Caroline if they wanted to go too. Lorena did but Caroline did not.

When we got there we saw people renting canoes. I though it looked like fun so I asked how much it would cost. It was only $15 for an hour so I decided to do it. Jorge and Lorena were nervous but I convinced them to do it. Jorge thought we might tip over but I told him I knew exactly what I was doing. It was so nice. I really want to do it again. The only sad part was the fact that I didn't have my camera and the batteries in Lorena's camera died so we have no pictures. I'm sure we'll go again though.

After that it was late and I wanted ice cream. We drove to Ben & Jerry's because there is a new  restaurant next door called Boloco. We all had burritos and the kids and I had ice cream afterwards. I love Cherry Garcia in a waffle cone. My brother, Ferris got the girls hooked on strawberry cheesecake ice cream. Jorge and Lorena were too full from their burritos so they didn't want any.

It was a really nice day. I think we are going to the beach today. I'm going to try to remember to take my camera.

Wednesday, August 15, 2007 - Progress

This is how far we've gotten in kindergarten so far.
Math 59/180
Phonics  160/180
Language Arts 90/180
History 20/72
Music 8/72

We're almost done with phonics! Woohoo!!!

I think I'm going to post some pictures in the morning. I also have a couple of cute little videos of the kids. We went to the beach on Monday but I forgot the camera in the car. I'm going to take them back next Monday I hope I remember it then.

Wednesday, August 8, 2007 - More Consistent

Having a job has forced me to be more conservative with my time. I am happy because I make sure we do school on a regular basis now. It's amazing how much we can get done when we sit down to do work. I'm even reading more to the kids now. This is great!

I do miss them during the day though. I guess that's only natural. I'm thankful that my work schedule is such that I have three full days with the kids. I'm also thankful for all the help I have. I wish Jorge would make more time for them on the days that I have to work but that may come with time. I think this has been a tough adjustment for him.

My goal is to do at least 90 minutes of school with Mari when I get home from work. On Mondays when I don't have to work I would like to do about 3 hours. That would give us nine hours each week which I think is reasonable for Mari's age.

On Monday I signed Mari up for ballet for the fall. I feel a little guilty because I didn't have enough money to sign Gabby up. My hope is that I will be able to sign her up in a few weeks when I have more money. I think they are going to love it. I also want to do something with Genna but we'll see because she is still so young.

Tuesday, July 10, 2007 - So Inconsistent

I am the most inconsistent homeschooler. We almost never do school five days in a row. I really hope that changes when the kids are older. Even though Mari in pretty much in kindergarten I keep telling myself she's only four so it's not that serious. I know it is serious and I'm going to really try to be more consistent. I want to teach them good study habits so the best time to start is right now.

Thursday, July 5, 2007 - Gabby is Potty Trained

Gabby is finally potty trained. A few weeks ago I realized that she knew how to use the toilet but she just didn't want to. So I didn't let her have a diaper or a pull-up all day and she peed in the toilet the whole day. The following day we did the same thing but when she needed to poop she went on the rug. We went back and forth from the rug to the toilet a few times and I told her that poop goes in the toilet not on the rug. Since then she has only had one other accident. She is finally potty trained!

Thursday, July 5, 2007 - Update

This is how far we are in Kindergarten. We love k12

Math  42/180

Phonics  135/180

Language Arts  75/180

History 15/72

Music  8/72

We haven't gotten very far in History and Music but we're really moving along in Phonics and Language Arts. Mari is learning so much. I though Phonics would be a complete review of stuff she already knew but she's really learning how to spell. Now she is learning about digraphs and trigraphs like ck, ch, tch, and stuff like that. k12 is great.

Saturday, May 12, 2007 - Mari's Birthday

It's been almost a month and I'm just getting around to blogging about Mari's birthday. Noah was only ten days old so I wasn't really in the mood for partying. Needless to say I didn't plan on having a party. My friend Aimee, her two kids, and her mom came over with a delicious cake so we were still able to sing "Happy Birthday."

Here are some pictures .
