Bright Lights

Just recently, a friend and I have started leading a discipleship group for girls called Bright Lights. ("Bright" stands for "Being Radiant in Godliness, Holiness, and Testimony".) We want to encourage the girls in our group to be strong for the Lord now, while they are young. There is a desperate call in our world for young ladies who will dare to be different; for girls who have a passion for the things of God and have set themselves apart for Him. Sadly, young people are often looked down on as rebellious and self-centered, and often rightly so. But that's not God's plan for us! He has something better in mind. 1 Timothy 4:12 gives God's blueprint for our lives:
"Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the believers in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."
We shouldn't let others look down on us because we are young; instead, we should hold ourselves to such high standards that we become patterns for other Christians.  What an amazing contrast a person wholly dedicated to God would make against the darkness of the world! It's light versus darkness! (Hmm, sounds familiar.)
But it's hard. We are surrounded by traps; sparkling promises of fun and popularity that try to lure us away from the Lord. You know the type - the ones that say sweetly, "If you could dress like that, then people would notice you", or, "Go ahead, watch that TV show. You can always read your Bible later",  and one very common, "Now, if only that cute guy liked you, then your life would be perfect!". What a chorus of lies. And we're not only fighting against the world, but we're also fighting the devil, who doesn't want any of us to be strong Christians, and we're fighting ourselves.
We don't fight alone, though. "If God be for us, who can be against us?" No one, of course! The same power that God used to raise Christ from the dead is available to us as His children (Eph. 1:19-20). His power can be used to do more than we ask, more than we think (Eph. 3:20)! For me, that's amazing. My dreams seem pretty big, but God can do more than I can imagine. Unto Him be the glory!

Elizabeth Barrett Browning
P.S. I'm going to be posting more of our Bright Lights lessons on here (Yep, you got pretty much the whole lesson!), but if you want more information on Bright Lights, go to  Sarah Malley's website www.brightlights.info.

About Me

Welcome to my little perch! I'm Kori, an 18 year old homeschool graduate who is the oldest of five kids. I'm an MMK (minister of music's kid), and I'm very thankful for the family the Lord chose for me! A few of my favorite things are reading, writing , playing piano, and working with kids. Right now, I'm pursuing a degree in music using distance education and CollegePlus! The most important thing in my life is my relationship my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In this blog, I want to sing His praises and encourage others to praise Him as well. Enjoy the music!

Luke 12:6-7 (KJV)

Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?

But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
