Good News ClubIt's so hard to believe that it's been an exact, entire month since I've last blogged! I'm trying to resist the urge to apologize all over myself for staying away for so long and getting so behind in my comments . School, among other things, has kept me hopping. These first few weeks have had their ups and downs, but, on the whole, they've gone very well. There's so much to catch up on that I'm not sure where to start, but I guess I'll just grab one subject and run with it . . .so . . .in a couple of previous entries, I've written about the Good News Club that our church staffs at a local elementary school. We've been in the school for four years, and have had some amazing opportunities to share the Gospel with the kids. (That's a few posts in itself!) Up until now, the school board has been supportive of our club, and we've been able to use the school building without a fee. However, this year they began charging a $100 fee per use of the building -- and since we meet nearly once a week, it would cost over $3000 for our club to meet. It's true that this fee applies to any groups that use the school building, but it still hardly seems fair. At the most recent school board meeting, the Child Evangelism Fellowship director for our area made a request that the school board waive the fee . . .and was politely acknowledged and ignored. Right now, it doesn't seem that we will be able to have a club this year. That's hard to accept! It's difficult to see any good from a situation like this. I know Romans 8:28 - "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are the called according to His purpose." But sometimes, like now, when I'm frustrated and a little angry, it's much harder to live it! I know God is working . . .but I can't see how. I suppose that's where faith comes in. Trusting for things you can't see, and trusting the ways of God, which are much higher than mine. It will be interesting to see what He does in the days ahead. MondaysOhh, Mondays . . .you gotta love 'em. No, really, I do! (Most of the time.) On Mondays I work in an after-school Good News Club at a local elementary school. Our church started doing it through CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship), and this is our fourth year. The kids are so much fun, and always hilarious. Here's just one story I could tell - a couple of weeks ago, the teacher asked the kids where the offering would be sent. One little girl raised her hand and yelled "To charity! To charity!" A girl sitting next to me asked, in all seriousness, "Charity who?" It's hard to keep a straight face sometimes. Right now though, my long day is catching up with me. I think my mind has decided to automatically shut down - without asking my permission. But I absolutely cannot allow that! "I have promises to keep,/ and miles go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep." (Guess what I studied in Literature today!) So now, on to those promises. |
