I know part 2....
Deuteronomy 6:7 tells us fathers to directly instruct our children. I like the comment about science experiments and not blowing up the garage. I would like to extend that a bit further, that we teach our children to be gentlemen, and proper ladies.
What does that look like...
That our children at least would learn to respect those around them, to treat one another with dignity. that a gentlemen would never strike a lady (and all girls/women are ladies), and a lady would never strike a gentleman unless her virtue was at stake, or the gentleman was initiating rude comments toward the lady. Violence also would include verbal abuse. Too many times we forget that violence is not only physical but also verbal. Sticks and stones make break bones and words can hurt you. Who is it that is supposed to prevent spousal abuse? They don't learn it by osmoses. Yes by, example, but also by instruction.
So in conclusion our children are supposed to be instructed by us, and if they behave contrary to being ladies and gentlemen is that an indication of our own short commings? |
