homeschooling from a dads perspective

Father,s priveledge, right, or responsibility

In today,s culture we as men leave the teaching of our childrento either a school system or our wives. I realize that we as men are out trying to make a living and are usually caught up not only in the day to day of the working world, but also in the activities of church life etc. so how do we make time to facilitate the education of our beloved children? sometimes we as men get so caught up that we delegate the chore(?) to our spouses and anticipate that somehow our children get taught.

I realise that this probably is not popular but maybe if we spend more time taking our responibility seriously, then maybe we would acheive better results all around.....

Sometimes all it takes for us dads to be a part of our children's education is to talk to our wives about what the kids are learning. We can help by explaining that tricky math question in a slightly different way than Mom did. But best of all are the weekend science experiments. ie: How NOT to blow up the garage.

an excellent question. I would suggest that dads actively engage in conversation with their children about what they are learning, go over the books they are reading, basically BE INTERESTED. As a parent you can only do so much and the rest is up to the kids anyway, no matter where they are formally getting their education. Modeling a love of learning is great too.
