"I will praise the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips." Psalm 34:1

The Bible calls debt a curse and children a blessing. But in our culture, we apply for a curse and reject blessings. Something is wrong with this picture! ~ Douglas Phillips www.visionforum.com

Potty Training the Sanguine Child

Posted in General

Oh how I had forgotten what it is like to potty train a sanguine child.  We are potty training Mark right now and Mark is sanguine.  There is no doubt about that.  I'm not certain of his other temperament (I suspect choleric) but the sanguine is VERY obvious.  You know this child.  He/she is the one that walks into a room and announces:  "Hi guys, I'm here"   This is the child that knows no stranger.  He/she shakes hands and greets EVERYONE he/she meets.  "Hi, I'm Mark."  This is the child that has a messy bed full of at least 15 stuffed animals.  It is a MESS but the sanguine child can climb into bed and say "where my spunky be" (his way of saying where is spunky)  I look at the mess and think how do you know it's not here.  This is the child that given one laugh or smile, he/she takes it and RUNS with it.  The sanguine child is one that hates to be alone and here is what makes potty training this child so challenging.  (at least for me)

We have three ready and willing helpers to sit in the bathroom with him and read to him.  The problem with that is his focus is on his company and not on what he should be doing.  And so we plug along.  He does have a bin of books in there that he can look at.  I remember when I potty trained Sam, I also allowed him to have a music player in there (child's type) and he could listen to music while he sat on the potty.  Mark likes music but he is sooo sanguine that it's just not any fun if you don't have someone to sing with you.

All of this being said, I'm THRILLED to report that potty training is going very well.  The first day was met with many tears of not wanting to sit by himself.  Once he realized it was not an option, he has done very well.  Thus far today, we have had NO accidents and he has pooped in the potty THREE times today.   Yesterday we only had two accidents, one of which was my fault.

Jun. 21, 2006 - Hi there.

I'm not sure if you remember me, but I purchased a book from you a while ago called "Created to Be His Helpmeet" and my also do ND therapy with my daughter. I was just blog searching, and your picture looked really familiar to me, and then when I saw the name of your children, it clicked. My computer crashed, and I lost so much information, and your email address was one of them. I just wanted to say hi, and I hope all is well. I'm over at blogger, but I would like to switch over to Homeschoolblogger, but I don't want to lose all my old post and pictures, etc.
Blessings,
Shereen

I'm so happy that potty training is going so well! Thank you for the VERY sweet email! It really brightened my day. So many things have been going on and I just haven't had time to sit at the computer very much anymore. I am going to try and post more often though and I hope to be able to read more also!!!!

((((HUGS))))) and I praise the Lord for your friendship!

Good luck! Potty Training is an adventure of its own! LOL
We just finished with my 3 year old (Praise the Lord!), but still pull-ups at night. I have a feeling it could be a while with those...
