One Blessed Mama

• Feb. 22, 2006 - not too bad

Well, we did all of our subjects except for science, dinner is made, and I got the books sorted. Not so bad! We will do science this evening once the stars come out. We are using a new science curriculum and so far we love it. It's Considering God's Creation. It's the perfect balance of hands on and worksheet and is working out well for my 4-year-old and my 10-year-old (and mom too).

I changed things around this year and we are using a classical approach with history now. I've learned in the 5 years since we started this journey that I do much better going through things systematically. I always considered myself a free-spirted kind of gal, go with the flow-ya know? Perhaps that was before the 4 children?   Now I'm Rain Man.

• Feb. 15, 2006 - a sweet Valentines

Yesterday we were invited to a Valentines party out in the country. There were about 4-5  families...so that makes about 50 or so kids. I love watching homeschooled kids play together. Not many people dare argue with me about homeschooling at this point, but if they do I love to bring up the fact that homeschooled kids love one another. It warms my heart to look out and see 13-year-olds playing with the 4-year-olds. THAT is OUR real world.

The highlight of the day was getting to watch a baby goat be born. Our hostess was a sweet, 40-something, (I suspect Italian?), woman with a strong Boston accent. "Call Papa..and get some hot water and molasses!" She then proceeded to help birth this goat while we all watched. She's my new hero. When the bag of waters was bulging Hannah exclaimed, "Look mom, she's laying an egg!"

Perhaps I should have let her witness Jed's birth afterall.

• Feb. 2, 2006 - Hello!

a little about us.....

My name is Melissa. I am married to Philip and we have four spunky kids. I enjoy photography, sewing, and I read way too much-seriously. I have a new love for Christian appologetics and science and the Bible. My prayer is that my children will be future warriors for Christ and that they will always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks them. So,  I'm digging in and learning all I can. God is so good!

DH is Philip. He is a wonderful husband and father. I think what I love best about him is that we like to laugh together. He is also being moved in the area of appologetics, which is great because we are constantly sharing what we are learning and having great discussions (Did I mention God is so good?). He also has very nice blue eyes and strong arms, which comes in handy when he is, er, bugging me. Hey-I'm an only child!

My oldest is Indy. He is my 9 year old, going on 35. He is a bit of a dreamer and artistic. I think what I love best about him is that he is KIND.

Next in line we have Hannah. Hannah is my handful. She was breech and is left-handed. need I say more? She is also very bright and totally amazes me with the stuff she comes up with. She soaks so much in and articulates her thoughts so well.

My third child is Sawyer-sweet Sawyer. He is just a delight. He loves trucks, tractors, and trains. He has the most beautiful blue eyes and blonde curls. He makes me laugh all day.

My baby is Jedidiah. He is a serious momma's boy. I'm fairly certain he would prefer to be back in the womb. He was 11 pounds 3 ounces when he was born-at home! I may be biased, but he is very, very cute, grinning with his 5 teeth. He melts my heart.

Well, that's us
